HomeMy WebLinkAboutRe: temp ramp To: Van Erickson F; 404-0442 from: Lyle Oman, Date: December 8, 1997 Pages: One Van, The city has no problem with a temporary ramp that meets code requirements. Please send over a drawing for review. The basement stairs however is a different matter. A stair way as part of a required exit must meet code before occupancy. If there was a way to meet cod with a temporary stair the city could allow it. Tenting the area of the stairs is not as difficult as protecting the flat work area and should be easily accomplished this year. If you have any more questions feel free to call me. From the desk of... Lyle Oman, Building Official City of Orono P.O. Box 66 Crytal Bay Mn. 473-7357 Fax: 473-05 I 0 Memo to: Van Erickson Re: Handicap Ramp 2180 North Shore Dr. From: Lyle Oman Building Official Date: 8-17-98 I have reviewed code requirements for the above mentioned ramp and find the following; 1- No handrail or guardrail is required by the state building code. However I would recommend keeping one for safety purposes. 2-42' deep frost footing are required. 3- Ramp must meet the requirements of Uniform Building Code table 16A, uniform concentrated load of 1001bs. per sq. ft. 4- Ramp must be accessible from the handicap parking stall. 5-Ramp must have a non slip surface. The Orono Building Department would feel comfortable allowing the temporary use of the ramp to continue until next yeazs building season if the following requirements were met. 1- In lieu of frost footings, the ramp must be kept level and straight with no more than 1/2"difference were it meets the steps. 2- The ramp is made accessible from the handicap parking stall. 3-A non slip surface is applied to the ramp.
