Work has been completed on the building to allow the building to be used under the F-2 occupancy classification. It is my understanding that the children's art school will be operating in the building for less than 12 hours per week or 4 hours in any one day. It is also my understanding that the Minnetonka Environmental School may be using the building for staff members but the children will not be using the building until a certificate of occupancy has been issued for the E occupancy classification. Presently I am 68 years of age. I am married, have two grown children, whom are both married, and we have five grandchildren. We live at this time in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota and spend our winters in our home in Alamo, Texas to escape the Minnesota winters, and while there continue our consulting with architects, cities, attorneys etc. I grew up in a family that ran a logging and lumbering business, so learned many lessons about lumber as a construction material, the grading of lumber and about the various types of species of wood and types of lumber at a rather young age. As my father passed away while I was still in high school, and I was too young at that time to continue in his business, the balance of the family started a retail lumber business with lumber that had been cut and sawed in our logging operations. I completed college, U of M at Duluth, MN., was married and served a two year hitch in the Marine Corp., returned to my home town of Barnum, and ran the family lumber and construction business for approximately five years. I have spent a total of 13 years in the retail lumber sales industry. I had by this time moved to the twin city area, and began my own construction business in this local. I did this for 10 years, and in 1970 was asked by the City of Oakdale to become its building inspector. I served this city, which is a second ring suburb of Saint Paul, as its building official unti11979, acting also as its fire marshal for the last 7 years. During this time the Minnesota State Building Code, became effective throughout the state. I was invited to and did accept a position on the State Building Codes and Standards Division staff as a consultant in June of 1979 and served in that position until I left to follow this independent consulting business of mine full time in the fall of 1985. My clients are primarily the design professian. for whom I act as an consultant on design matters, cities and counties, for whom I do plan review and act as a consultant to their building inspection staffs, some contractors, the legal profession for whom I act as both consultant and expert witness, and in some special cases an individual home or business owner with building code problems. I graduated from the U. of Minnesota, Duluth, with a BS. degree in Industrial Education in 1951. Since that time I have taken numerous courses from various colleges offering correspondence courses in Millwork,Lumber, Paint etc.. I have earned a total of 27 credits in"Building Inspection Technology" from our two local community colleges of Inver Hills and North Hennepin. February 1996 Page 2 of 2 pages. Re: Resume - Duane C. Grace continued. I now teach some of these same classes along with some classes for the construction management people. I ha.ve for some 12 years been putting on various seminars each year for the design profession through the MN. A.I.A., for building officials at their various cha.pter organizations of I.C.B.O., and for such organizations as CSI, schools teaching architecture, the Univ., of Minnesota Long Term Health Caze Division etc. All on various aspects of the Minnesota State Building Code. I am certified by the State of Minnesota as a Building Official, #0556 Have been certified by Council of American Building Officials as a building oicial. #472. As a building inspector, by the International Conference of Building Officials and as a plan reviewer. Certificates#1923 and#9793 respectively. I currently belong to all three of the Model Code Groups, The Internationa.l Conference of Building Officials, (ICBO.) Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc., (SBCCI.) and the Building Officials and Code Administrators International, (BOCA) I also am a member of the National Fire Protection Association, (NFPA.), The Construction Specification Institute. (CSI) I am presently serving as the building official for 3 smaller communities in Minnesota, until they find a certified building official to take my place and also for the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The above list will vary each year. In some cases I may serve as a building official for a city for just one project, whenever their building official is not qualified or certified to perform the function of plan review and inspection for that tpe of structure. I do the plan review for some 40 various cities in Minnesota, and work will over 50 different architectural firms during the course of a construction season. Have in the past few years been hired as a consultant bydifferent firms of attorneys from 6 to a 12 times during the course of a year. Respectively submitted, Duane C.
