Applications for septic system permits may be mailed or submitted in person at the City Of�ces; however, permits will not be mailed out. The permit must be picked up in person at the City Offices and work must not begin unless the permit card is on the job site. 2. Permits will be issued only to contractors holding a City of Orono Septic System Installers License. 3. All work must be done in accordance with the approved septic system design. Design reports are not considered approved unless accompanied by the "City of Orono Septic System Approval" cover sheet signed by the Ciry Inspector. 4. The following inspections will be required for all septic systems: A. Pre-installation site inspection to include inspector, installer, and general contractor. B. Tank installation prior to covering. C. Drainf'ield trench installation prior to covering. For mounds, inspection is required after rough-up but prior to sand placement (sand will be jar tested for silt content), and again during pressure distribution piping installation in the rock bed. D. Final inspection to verify proper final cover depths and to verify that all pump station (where required) components are functional and comply with codes. 5. Individual holding MPCA Installer Certificate shall be present during inspections. A 24- hour notice is required for all inspections. . - � NOTE: Applicant must initial all spaces. Co., MN This site has an existing on-site sewage treatment system which is Gassified as failed due to not meeting the required 3' separation from the bottom of the system and the saturated soil. Soil borings into the system found the top of the rock at 12" to 18" below the surFace with the bottom of the rock 30"to 36" below the ground surface. The original tests and design compieted by S-P Testing, Inc. on June 12, 1984 logged rr�ottled soil at 4-1/2' below the ground surface and the system was designed with the bottom 18" below the ground surFace. The system was also installed downslope of the original tests. This On-Site Sewage Treatment System is Designed for a Type 1, 6 bedroom home, (3 at present - adding 3) in accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Chapter 7080 and local ordinances. The soils on this site are SCS soils mapped - LrC - Lester loam. The seasonally saturated soils were located at 34" to 54". The bottom of the treatment area must be located at least 3' above the seasonally saturated soits. An At-Grade system may be installed for the proposed site. Two At-Grades will be installed side by side with equal distribution on the slopes, see attached work sheet. A pressurized mound system will be needed for the future expansion site. The At-Grade System wil! need to be on a 7�o slope which will requir�e City approvat, a maximum of 6% is required. The future site is on a 7.5% slope and will need to be 10' from the property line along Co.Rd.6 which will also require approval from the City of Orono. 1 a . t : � The soils at a depth of 12" have a percolation rate of 4.5 mpi. The existing tanks may be used if water tight and upon approvat from the local Inspector. A 6BR home requires 1-1250 & 1-1000 by the city of Orono. The existing tanks may be 2-1000 gallon capacity which wilt require another tank to be installed. A pumping chamber will need to be installed to lift the septic effluent to the treatment area. The power supply and switches must be located outside the manhote and pumping chamber in a weather proof enclosure. A waming device must be installed with a light and sound device, this is in case of a pump failure. The existing weil on this site is 55' from the At-Grade System and 50' from the absoprtion area of the down slope toe of the future mound system wMich will require city approval. City oode is 75'. All other neighboring wells are greater than 100' away from the proposed treatment areas. Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment area before and af�er construction. The treatment ar�ea should be marked off bef�one constrvction. This Design is not valid &the system will need to be relocated if failure to protect the areas proposed for On-Site Sewage Treatment occurs. With proper installation and maintenance, this system should have no problem in treating septic effluent effectively. Nothing other than human waste, toilet tissue, laundry, showers, water softener etc. should be disposed of into the septic tanks. Iron filters must be diverted out of the system. Garbage disposals are not recommended, due to adding more solids 8 fine solids passing through to the system. Exoessive amounts of soaps, anti-bacterial soaps, cleaning agents &chlorine agents may kill the bacteria needed to treat septic effluent. Additives are not recommended.
