Also enclosed are Minnesota Plumbing Code sections dealing with water softening requirements and required inspections.The purpose of the permit and inspection is to protect your health and the city water supply. If the discharge pipe is installed incorrectly and there is a negative pressure in the water system back flow or back siphonage . Code violations could exist that don't present problems right of way.A fire in the neighborhood years from now could cause a negative pressure in the water lines due to use of water to fight the fire.There are many other issues that could cause illness or death. One out of 10 water conditioning inspections result in required corrections.The inspection will take less than 5 minutes and any corrections will be the responsibility of the contractor that did the installation. You are connected to the city water supply and an issue could cause problems for other people in the city.Therefore the city must require an inspection or consider disconnecting you from the city water supply. If you do not want a city inspector to inspect the installation for some reason you have the option of hiring a licensed plumbing contractor to do the inspection and submit a compliance letter to the city.
