Dear Christine:
We have reviewed the plans dated 9-23-09 for 790 North Arm Drive. The plan proposes to
remove an existing stairway that crosses a property line and construct a new one within the
�� applicant's properly. We have the following comments with regards to engineering matters:
• The applicant has addressed previous concerns about the location of the proposed steps
relative to the lot line and trees.
• It is our understanding that the submitted step detail drawing shows a general step
construction and the stairway will be fit to the hillside which requires no grading.
• This plan is acceptable from an engineering standpoint.

Dear Melanie:
We have reviewed the plans dated 9-1-09 for 790 North Arm Drive. The plan proposes to remove
an existing stairway that crosses a property line and construct a new one within the applicanYs
property. We have the following comments with regards to engineering matters:
• Aerial photos show two significant trees located near the proposed stairway. These
should be located on the plans. The concern is that field adjustments would be made
and the stairway would be constructed within 10 feet of the lot line.
• The maximum slope of the hill at the proposed stairway location reaches 1.75 feet
horizontal to 1 foot vertical. This translates into a 10.5 inch run and a 6 inch rise for the
steps. The step construction plans indicate a minimum 16 inch run to a 6 inch rise and a
12 inch minimum inside "permeable gravel" tread infill. These plans should be
coordinated with the actual existing ground shown in the survey.

review, which usually takes 7 days.

mail to me, I'll forward to John and to Mr. and Mrs. Engeler. We can then plan the Engelers' installation accordingly.
I believe Mrs. Engeler said she dropped off the updated 2009 survey at Orono Planning last week.

I dropped off the construction drawings on August 26th to your office, and I believe that Gronberg &Assoc. Surveyors,
were going to be submitting the 2009, updated site survey to your office.
