RE: Sealing attic insulation shield on HHT SL-300 and 1100 series
chimneys
Hearth & Home Technologies has received approval from Underwriter's
Laboratories and OMNI Laboratories to allow sealing of both SL-300 and 1100
series wood burning fireplace chimney ceiling firestops entering an insulated attic
space. The gap between the chimney and the firestop may be sealed with high-
temperature silicone RTV sealant.
This approval is for the top level ceilinq firestop enterinq insulated space only. It
does not extend to ceiling firestops between floors at lower levels. HHT also
requires the use of an attic insulation shield in this application.
Sealing of the ceiling firestops between floors may cause overheating and fire.
The changes to instruction manuals are forthcoming. Please contact me if you
have any questions.
