Box 66
Crystal Bay, MN 55323
RE: 1074 Loma Linda Avenue, Orono - Roof
Dear Sir:
In response to your
letter of August 13, 1990, regarding the above roof. We as a contractor warrant
the workmanship for one year after date of installation. The manufacturer of
the shingles provide the owner with a 15 year prorated warranty that was given
to the homeowner when they paid in full, October 24, 1981. The first we
heard of any type of leak was February 11, 1988. We sent out a roofing person
to inspect the roof as to any repairs needed. He noted some sealing that had
to be done do to weather and wear, and did what he felt needed to make the
roof water tight. We did note that the home is not properly insulated, and
it could have some ice back-up problems in winter months. When we originally
sold the job, we suggested tearing off all old roofing and perhaps covering
the complete roof with new plywood. The customer stated due to the health
of Mr. Mattson at that time, they could not afford the tear off plan, and
choose repair work. The last time we spoke to Mrs. Mattson was on February
26, 1990. We offered to check her roof in the spring of 1990, but there would
be charges for any repairs we did. We did not hear from her again until August
8, 1990, when she began threating us with a difference of opinion. We suggested
she hire a roofer in her area to service her roof, and told her there would be
a charge for any work our crews did. She also, said some of her shingles looked
defective. If this is true, she needs to contact the manufacturer GAF, they have
a local office and plant. Maybe now is the time to tear the whole roof off and
inspect for rotted wood, etc. and apply the new ice and water systems on her
roof deck.
Thanks for dropping us a note, we consider this matter closed.
Sincerely
1 _
 -
Ching Johnso , Vie President
CJ:tp
ROOFING-RESIDING-PORCH ENCLOSURES-DOORS-WINDOWS
