Subd. i. Type of data. The righa of individual on whom t6e data is stored or co be stored shall be as set forth in this secrion.
Subd.2. Information req�red to be given individuai. An individual asked to supply private or confidendal data conceraing himself shall
be informed of: (a)the purpose and intended use of the requested data within the collecting�tate agency,polidcai subdivision,or sracewide system;
(b)whethet he may refuse oY is legally required to supply the requested data:(c)any Imown consequence arising from his supplyiag or refusing to supply
privace or confidendai data;and(d)the idenury of ocher persons or enades au[horized by sta[e or federal law to receive the data. 'i'his requirement shall
not apply when an individual is asked to supply invesugadve dara, pursuant co secdon 13.82,subdivision 5, to a law enforcement o�cer.
The commissioner of re�enue mav place the noace reauired under this subdivision in the individual income_tax or propertv tax refund

Subd.3. Access to data by individual. Upon request to a responsible authority,an individual shall be informed whether he is the subject
of stored data on individuals,and whe[her it is classified as public, privace or confidential. Upon ivs further request,an iadividual who is the subjecc
of stored private or public dara on individuals shall be shown che data wichout any charge to him and,�if he desires, shall be informed of the content
and meaning of chat data. Afcer an individual has been shown[he private data and informed of its meaning,the data need not be disclosed ro him for
six months thereafter unless a dispute or acaon pursuant to this secdon is pending or addidonal data on the individual has been coilected or created.
The responsible authoriry shall provide copies of the private or public data upon request by the individual subject of the data. The responsible authority
may require the requesring person to pay the actual cosu of making,cerafying,and compiling the copies.
The responsible authoriry shall comply immedia[ely, if possible, with any request made pursuant to this subdivision,or within five days of
the date of the request,excluding Saturdays,Sundays and legal holidays,if immediace compliance is not possible. If he cannot comply with the request
within that time,he shall so inform the individual,and may have an additiona!five days within wtuch to comply with the request,excluding Saturdays,
Sundays and legal holidays.
Subd.4. Procedure when data is not accurate or complete. An individual may contest the accu�acy or completeness of public or private
data conceming himseif. To exercise[his right,an individuai shall nodfy in wridng the responsible authoriry describing rhe namre of the disagreement.
The responsible authoriry shatt within 30 days either: (a)correct the data found to be inaccurate or incomplete and attempt to nodfy past recipiencs of
inaccurate or incomplete data, including recipien[s named by the individual;or(b)noafy the individual thac he believes the data to be correct. Data
in dispute shall be disclosed only if[he individual's statement of disagreement is included with the disclosed data.
The decerminadon of the responsible authority may be appealed pursuant to the provisions of the administrarive procedure act reladng to
contested cases.

Handrails shall be placed not less than 34 inches or more than
38 inches above the nosing of treads . They shall be continuous the
full length of the stairs. Ends shall be returne�. or shall
terminate in newel posts or safety terminals .
The handgrip portion of handrails shall be not less than 1 1/4
inches or more than 2 inches in cross-sectional dimension or the
shape shall provide an equivalent gripping surface. The handgrip
portion of handrails shall have a smooth surface with no sharp
corners.
Handrails projecting from a wall shall have a space of not
less than 1 1/2 inches between the wall and the handrail .

Decks
Buildin�Permits are required for any deck or patio.
Frost Footin�s are required for any deck that is attached to a dewelling or gazage that has a frost
footings.
Guardrails-All decks that aze 30" or more above grade must be protected by a guardrail. Such rail
shall be 36" minimum in height. Open guardrails and stair railings shall have intermediate rails or
an ornamental pattern such that a 4" diameter sphere cannot pass through.
Overhan�ng Decks - Joists should not overhang beams by more than two feet, nor should beams
overhang posts by more than one foot unless a special design is approved.
Stairwav-If a stairway is to be provided, it shall be not less than 36 inches in width. 8" maximum
rise - 9" minim�im run- 6'8" minimum headroom.
Handrails-Handrails shall be provided to all stairways having 4 or more risers(private residential
only). See page 5 for more information.
Live Load-All decks shall be designed to support a live load of 60 pounds per square foot.
Flashin� -All connections between deck and dwelling shall be weatherproof. Any cuts in exterior
finish shall be flashed or caulked.
Joist Han� - Header joists more than six feet long and tail joists over 12 feet long shall be
supported by approved framing anchors such as joist hangers.
Wood Required-All exposed wood used in the construction of decks is required to be of approved
wood of natural resistance to decay(redwood,cedar,ect.)or approved treated wood. This includes
posts,beams,joists, and decking.
�ecial Design Note- Some deck designs may not be appropriate should the placement of a screen
porch or 3-season porch on the deck platform be a future consideration.Porch setback requirements
are not the same as deck setbacks.

1. Footin�s -After holes are dug,but prior to pouring of concrete.
2. Framins - Prior to laying decking. Framing inspection may be done when
deck is complete if deck is not enclosed undemeath.
3. Final -When deck is completed.
