Dear PIr . Lennon:
The City of Orono has completed acquisition of properties
necessary to allow the Minnesota State Department of Trans-
portation to initiate necessary construction of the proposed

The Orono School District' s share of acquisition costs is $16 , 772 .37
which represents 50 of the total cost to acquire right of way
for this project. The final settlement is much higher than
originally estimated but was necessary to continue the construction
project as scheduled. The total contractors bid to construct
the semaphore was much higher than originally esti:nated by the
Minnesota Department of Transportation, but I think, we all agree
that if we are to realize completion of the semaphore for the
1981-1982 school year, we will all have to accommodate increased
costs for this project.
I, and the Orono City Council, wish to extend to the Orono School
Board of Education, you and your staff our sincere appreciation
for your cooperative spirit and willingness to assist us in this
very worthy project. All of our residents within the School District
will benefit when this project does become a reality.
Sincerely,
