HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-08-1980 Joint Meeting with Planning Commission Minutes CITY OF ORONO Joint Meeting of the Orono Council, Planning 7 : 30 P.M. - Commission, and Park Commission April 8, 1980 The Orono Council met on the above date with the following members present: Mayor Van Nest, Council- members Butler, Massengale , and Paurus. Absent: Councilmember Hurr. Planning Commission members present: Adams, Frahm, and Wilson. Absent: Hammerel , Hannah, Jabbour, and McDonald. Park Commission members present: Erger, Goetten, Kelley, Massengale , Peterson, and Tomlinson. Absent: Watson. Also present: Planning Consultant Isberg, � City Planner Olson, Public ?aorks Coordinator Gerhardson, and City Clerk Strom. Alan Olson, City Planner, reviewed the proposed COMPREHENSIVE PLAN Comprehensive Plan explaining the sections and table of contents. Gunnar Isberg, Consultant, displayed maps of the City and explained the different areas. Alan Olson, City Planner, stated that the Metropolitan Council deadline for receiving the Plan from the Ci±�� �f Orono is �7ulv l , 1980 . He suggested that the Planning Commission set riay �: , �;°C �cr ;::� public hearing to be held by the Planning Commissio�. After the Planning Commission adopts a resolution approving the Plan at their public hearing, the City Council will adopt a resolution at their regular meeting of June 2 , 1980. After the City Council approves the Plan, it will be mailed to the Metropolitan Council and other communities. Councilmember Massengale requested Mayor Van Nest RESIGNATION to read the attached letter of resignation to_ the Walter B. Massengale audience. After the Mayor read the letter, the persons present expressed their regrets at Council- member Massengale ' s leaving but all wished him will in his new venture. The meeting adjourned at 9 : 15 P.M. This will require that I move to southern California. Accordingly, it is with a great deal of sorrow that I tender my resignation as Councilman. It has been a very pleasurable experience to serve the citizens on the the City Council. Orono is the greatest place to live I have ever been. I am going to miss it. To the City staff and Dick Benson: Your support of the Council has been outstanding and I commend you : for your loyalty and dedication to the City. To the Council : Your dedication to the City is admirable. Each of you has made a truly significant contribution of time, effort and loyalty which deserves recognition. You have some significant challenges ahead tc protect the quality of Iife in Orono. It is extremely important for the future. To the residents of Orono: I have enjoyed serving you as an elected official_ You also have a challenge to participate in local government, voice your opinions to the Council and City staff, and protect your environ- ment.
