In researching the files I found that when the house was removed from the property, the City granted the previous owner pernussion to keep the pool until a new residence was built on the property, but no later than December l, 1992. A pool is considered an accessory structure and Orono Municipal Code does not allow an accessory structure without a principal structure on a piece of property. The pool is considered to be a hazard to the public and animals and could be breeding mosquitos. Therefore it should be removed and the hole backfilled. If you have a reason to keep it, the City Council would have to grant you permission. If it is to be removed, a demo permit is required for record keeping purposes, and an inspection would be required before backfilling to verify that it has been completely removed from the ground. Please respond in writing within the next two weeks on how you wish to proceed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at my office. Sincerely, (;vtt.
