HARDCOVER ORDINAI�TCE- In 197�, t�e Orono City Council adopted an ordinance limitinQ
the percenta�e of lot area that can be covered with impervious surface ("hardcover") such as
roofs, driveways, sidewalks, etc. on properties located within 1,000 feet of a lake. Studies have
shown that sediments, oils, and debris carried into the lake from hiahly urbanized areas have
a detrimental impact cn tt'�e quuii;' of water in the lake. The intent of Orono's ordinance is to
ensure that rainfall run-off will be cleansed by iiltering throu�h �rassed or vegetated yard areas
before entering [he lake.
