HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-08-1974 Council Memo TO: City Council
FROM: James Cosby, City Administrator
_'i
DATE: April 4, 1974
SUBJECT: Agenda Items for Meeting of April 8, 1974
17. If you will check in your packets from the last Council meeting
and bring with you that information on Relate, it is my understanding
that those individuals will be appearing before the Council to request
funds. The City Attorney has informed me that Federal Revenue Sharing
Funds and/or General Fund monies may be used to support this type of
social activities. It appears, however, that the West-Tonka Relate
organization has run afoul of the Mound Relate organization and the
change being requested is to give an equal amount of money to both
Relate organizations. At the present time, members from both organizations
are attempting to put together information for the Council but it has
not come to the office as yet. My suggestion to the Council in this
particular matter would be that if there are two Relate organizations
requesting funds, that it be referred back to the Human Rights Commission
for their comments on it for the nature of the request has since changed.
I ttiink it would be appr}riate for the Human Rights Commission to
determire which Relate organization does the most benefit for Orono and
we should fund that particular one only.
18. There is a resolution in your packet from the Suburban League
requesting your support for its nomination for the C. C. Ludwig Municipal
Award.
19. You have a resolution in ycur packet to order in the four projects
of Sanitary Sewer Project 73-1 for which the final plans and specifications
have already been ordered. The deadline for ordering those projects
in is April 18, 1974.
20. You have a memo in your packets from Dick Benson concerning the
1974 street sealing program. This is an annual on-going program and
the funds for the street sealing has been already budgeted for. It
has been a Council policy in the past to have presented to it the
sealing program so that it may order the specifications be drawn up and
the program carried out.
21. Mr. John Eidem, the Orono liquor store manager, will be before you
this evening to answer any questions that you may have in regard to the -
operation of the liquor store and the fact that he will be 65 next month.
It is Mr. Eidem' s desire to continue to work as long as possible in
the capacity of the Orono liquor store manager and I would ask the
Council to at least, let him continue in that capacity for the rest of
this year and that we review his status on a year-by-year basis.
