HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-25-1974 Council Memo «, , . Tn: City Council FROM: James Cosby, City Administrator DATE: June 21, 1974 SUBJECT: Council Meeting of June 25, 1974 INFORMATION ITEMS In your packet you have several job applications for my position and I would suggest that upon reviewing those over the week-end, hat you begin to setup appointments as soon as possible to interview. The advertisement for this position has been published in the International City Management Newsletter and Mr. Marston' s position has also been advertised in the American Association of Planners publication and we should be receiving quite a few applications as a result of this. The next item in your agenda packet is the letter of resiqnation by the Chief of Police. This was submitted to me on the morning of June 20 , 1974, and as a result of that letter, I felt that it was best to make a slight alteration. I have taken it upon myself to extend to the Chief of Police 60 days of paid vacation beginning June 20 , 1974, which means that he will be on vacation until September 12 , 1974. This will give the Council an opportunity to discuss whether or not they wish to reemploy him as a patrolman or re]_i.eve him of any employeed function in the City. I have told Mr. Ross that my advise to him would be to take a look at the job market and begin to see whether or not it might be to his best interests to find employment elsewhere. Mr. Ross stated to me today that he had intended to do that anyway and I guess at this point all I can say is that we will have to wait and see what develops. All of this is ofcourse subject to Council approval about a vacation and I should also tell you that I have appointed Red Daniels as Acting Chief, effective June 20 , 1974 . AGENDA 17, 18, 19. These items are rather general and I believe that the Council is fully informed of those items with item #17 being simply the standard resolution that is passed for the beer and setup licenses . 20. This item is the salary adjustments that were tabled from June 11 , 1974. The only new item in your packet is item #21, which is the Auditor' s report and I would suggest to the Council at this time that they should set a date with the Auditor to sit down and go over his report in detail. 22 . This item is a resolution from Minnetonka Beach wishing to join the Assessing District. The contract is enclosed. The standard form of the contract, and I believe Marc will be in a position to discuss that in more detail with you. Agenda Meeting of June 25 , 1974 Page 2 23. This item is simply informing us that the Metro Rate Authority which we tried to establish once in the past is no longer in effect due to the new State law which has been passed r.egarding a State regulartory agency. 24 . You have a list of police equipment as a result of the meeting with the police a.nd Council last week.
