I went over to the prope and talked to the brother in-law about what they were doing. He said that the tree cutting servic are cutting the trees�less than 6 inches along the length of the property. He said they are doing nly what the neighb ring properties do. The property owner was not there. I observed the cutti g and went back t the office to look at the contour map to see if they were on a "bluff'. Mik Gaffron and I c ncluded that they were on a bluff and went out to stop the action. After go'ng out to the site M�ike concluded that they were clearing cutting within 75 feet of the lake and on a "bluff'. We tolc�them to stop and have the property owner call him next week. Gatehouse: This letter is reg�rding the intensive vegetation clearing that was done on the bluff of Lake - Classen at your plroperty on July 3, 2003. Intensive vegetation clearing is not allowed withi 75 feet of a lake or on a steep slope greater than 30%(section 10.56 sub.3 (2)& 10.56 sub. 16 I)2). Intensive vegetatl on clearing on steep slopes creates: I -increase erosion of bluff -reduced canopy resulting in raindrops to directly hit bluff with full velocity -lack of root system on bluff causing soil to erode into lake -loss of saenic views of lakeshore viewed from lake The city will hold off on any legal action forcing restoration if you get a professional landsc pe plan that re-estab�ishes the canopy and ground cover on the bluff. The plan should provide proper landscapi�g to hold the bluff and return it to the way it looked before the cutting. Pl ase provide this plan to our office by August 22, 2003 so we can review it. After we review it e � will require you t10 implement the plan imediatly after you install your septic system or Oct er 1, 2003 which evier comes first, so we can get a vegetative cover re-established.
