Approximatel_y twenty persons were �oresent to discuss with the
Council Long I,ake ' s proposition to locate their Municipal sewage
}reatrlient plant on Long I,ake Cr�ek, �ast of Orono Orchard Road.

The foll.owin; p�rsons voic�d object�ons : N.Barbeau,D.Cl�veland,
�.T3anson and E.Hawkinson.Nr.Cleveland read alo�ad lettcrs frorn K.

The principal points brought out in the discussion were : Th�
unpleasant odors and nthcr undesirable el�ments of treatment
plants will not raise valucs of surrounding properti�s ;rather it
will lower such values .The resultant loss in tax income should be
consiaered.I,ong I,ake probably has not �xplor�d �.11 possibl� sites
within the limits of I,on� Zake.Thc �roposed plant would riave to
be ex�andeu mn the future.Its proposed d�sign would se.rve 1500 �
people ;Long La.k� is now 1000 and its expected saturation is 3000
population.The poirit of incorporating Orono as a Vi1la�� �vas to
• �+op annexation of portions of the Town of O�ono by other muni-
cipalities .

carried unanimously:
� Becaus� th�r� appcars to be a rr�ore acc�ptable site
�n�ithin the lir�its of the Village of Zong Zak� for their
s�wag� treatment plant , the Village Council of Orono is
opnosed to the present plans to locat� said plant on I,ong I,ake
Creek east of Orono Orchard Road wit�iin the limits of Orono
and hereby instructs th� Villag� Attorney to procecd according-
ly.
The Council instructed th� Village Engineer to make any necess-
{��v studies and furnish whatev�r information r'Cql11rCC� by the Atty.

HFNNEPIN COUNTY FAIR APPROPRIATION �
It was moved by Turnham,secondcd by Schmm.tt,and carried,to
forv�ard �b50.00 to th� Henncpin County Agricultural Society for �
use in holding the Henn�pin County Fair in 1962 .
