This letter is to notify you that a building permit is required for deck construction in the City of Orono. There appears to be a setback problem with the deck where constructed. Orono code requires a 35' front setback in your zoning district. Your options are to remove the work (the steps only could project beyond the existing porch as steps are considered a non encroachment) or you could apply for a variance to the City code. A variance application costs $200.00 and there is no guarantee the City Council would grant the variance. Please contact me as soon as possible to discuss how you wish to proceed. This letter is to inform you that the City requires building permits for the construction of sheds. Sheds must meet setbacks from property lines and other structures. Please provide the enclosed permit application, a plan showing how the shed is built and a survey showing its location. A review will be done and if it meets the zoning and building code requirements, a permit can be issued. A deadline of April 29, 1996 has been established for submittals.
