A portion of your driveway is located on the 20' wide platted alley adjacent to your property line. Building permit number 5152 was issued on, October 21, 1983, by the City of Orono for the construction of a new 32' x 24' detached garage and demolition of the existing garage. A copy of the building permit and associated survey are attached to this letter. The approved property line setbacks for this garage, are 20' from the front lot line, and 10' from the side lot line. The survey shows the garage doors facing the platted alley. The location of the garage doors 10 ` from the edge of the alley definitively shows that a portion of the driveway needs to be located on the alley to provide access to the garage. Approval of the building permit clearly intended to allow construction of a portion of the driveway on the City alley. This is an appropriate, and typical, situation as this alley was platted to provide access. This is no different from driveways across platted street right of ways to allow driveway access to the City street pavement. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
