CITY OF ORONO — SEPTIC SYSTEM PERMIT APPLICATION
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Applications for septic system permits may be mailed or submitted in person at the City
offices; however, permits will not be mailed out. The permit must be picked up in person at
the City offices and work must not begin unless the permit card is on the job site.
*** DO NOT MAIL PAYMENT WITH THIS APPLICATION ***
2. Permits will be only issued to contractors holding a Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
(MPCA) Septic System Installers License.
3. All work must be done in accordance with the approved septic system design.
4. The following inspections will be required for all septic systems:
A. Tank installation prior to covering.
B. Drainfield trench installation prior to covering. For mounds, inspection is required after
rough up, but prior to sand placement (sand must be jar tested for silt content) and
again during pressure distribution piping installation in the rock bed.
C. Final inspection to verify final cover depths and to verify that all pump station (where
required) components are functional and comply with codes.
5. MPCA licensed Installers or their DRP (Designated Responsible Person) shall be present
during all inspections.
A 24-HOUR NOTICE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL INSPECTIONS.

This on-site Sewage Treatment System is designed for a Type 1 fo�-bedroom home in accordaoce with the
Minnesota Pollation Control Agency Chapter 7Q80 and local or+dinances.
The seasonally saturated soiis were located at 24"-28"(mottled soil).Due#o the seasonally saturated soils,a
pressurized mound system will need to be installed to treat the septic effluent The bouom uf the treatment
area must be located at least 3'above the saturated soils.
All neighboring wells are greater than 100 feet from proposed tr�nent areas.

The existing septic system does not conform to the state code chapter 7080.
The exisring tank must be abandoned.
Two new 1000 gallon septic tanks need ta be installed.A new 1000 galton lift station needs to be installed.
A pumping chamber will need to be installed to lift the effluenY to the treatmeat area. The power sapply amd
switches must be located outside t8e manhole and pumping chamber in a weatherproof enciosure. A
warning device must be installed with light and sozmd devices;this is in case of a pump fail�u-e.The
manifold and su�ppty Iine must have back drainage to the pump chamber.The rock and fill materials mast
be ctean.The sod layer betow the entire mounded area mvst be turned over.Jvst brsalc up the sod and be
sure not to over work_
Nothing other than arav water.(laundrv,showers,etc.) Human ws�ter and toilet tissue should be
disaosed of into the seatic tanfis. Garbage disaosais are not recommended Additives must not be
