Dear Mr. Janke:
The above described property is in a Metropolitan Urban Service Area(MUSA) for sanitary se���er
installation. The factors for initiating the sewer project were smaller lot sizes and non-compliant septic
systems with limited replacement sites available. The residence was required to connect to the se�ver
system no later than February 14, 2000. Recently, the City Council adopted a resolution allo�ving all
sewer connections to coincide�vith the septic system upgrade time frame. The time frame for a septic
system upgrade is seven to ten years from the inspection date dependant upon the property's location.
Your property�vill need to connect to the sanitary sewer system no later than December 31, 2005, which
is the date your septic system was to be upgraded. A Se�ver Availability Charge (SAC) fee will need to
be paid to the City in the year the scwer connection is made. A licensed plumber must then obtain a
permit from the City to make the connection from the residence to the actual sewer line.
If at any time before December 31, 2008 thc residence undergo's a remodeling project that�vill increase
the total �vater use, the residence must then connect to the sanitary sewer system. If at any time before
the above date the system is failing,thc residence must then immediately coruiect to the sanitar}�sewer
system.
Minor maintenance can and should still be conducted ou your septic system. Pumping the septic tanlcs,
repairing or replacing pumps, and replacement of septic tank baffles are eYanlples of acceptable repairs.
If the septic system needs major maintenance, such as septic tank replacement or drainfield replacement,
coruiection to the sanitary se�ver system will be required.
