Re: Deck Construction:
Dear Mr. Newton:
It has come to the attention of the City that you have recently constructed a deck on your property.
The contractor attempted to obtain a permit after a stop order was posted. However, he was
unlicensed and did not have the proper submittals for the issuance of a permit. Therefore the burden
falls on the property owner.
The City must require you to submit a permit application with two sets of building plans, hardcover
calcs and a survey showing the location of the deck. A review will be completed and if the plans
are in compliance with applicable building and zoning codes, a pennit can be issued. A deadline of
July 30, 1997 has been established for submittals. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me

Re: Deck Construction/Without Building Permit
Dear Mr. Newton:
On July 17, 1997 this office notified you of the requirement of a building permit for a deck
constructed on your property. As of this date, a permit has not been issued. The City will hold off
on legal action until October 28, 1997. If a permit application and the required submittals are not
received by that date, citations will be issued and the matter will be referred to the City Attorney for
further legal action. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at my office.

Re: Deck Construction without Permit
Dear Mr. Newton:
This office first notified you of permit requirements for a deck reconstruction on your property on
July 17, 1997. As of this date, a permit has not been issued. It has also come to the City's attention
that the deck is probably in violation of setback requirements. If that is the case, you would need
to obtain a variance from City Council to keep it. The next deadline for variance applications is
December 22, 1997 by 12:00 p.m. If a building permit application with deck plans and a survey
showing the deck in an acceptable location or a variance application and the required submittals are
not received by that date, the City will issue citations and refer the matter to the City Attorney for
further legal action.
