I received your VM message. Our engineer has reviewed the survey dated 1-23-13 for the pool project at 3350
Fox Street and has the following comments:
• The survey needs to show proposed locations of erosion control.
• There survey should reflect maintaining storm sewer on their own property. There is an area directly east
of the proposed patio/ pool /garden area which has the potential to drain toward the neighboring property.
The survey should be updated to reflect a swale on the property (see my notes on the submitted survey).
Attached is a copy of the notations Jesse is referencing.
I believe your office has already called our permitting staff and has obtained the fee information you requested.
Finally, before we can issue the pool permit, we need an updated survey submitted addressing our engineers
comments and a copy of the MCWD permit.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

As requested, site visits were made on May 6 and 7, 2013, at 3:3a P.M, & 12:00 P.M. respectively,
to evafuate and test soils for swimming pool construction at a single-family residence. The
proposed pool will be an in ground design, with a 6"—8" aggregate base, and masonry
construction.
At the time of the inspection, the contractor had completed the poof excavation, being rpctangular in
shape, with shallow east &west ends s[oping to the deep section at the pool centerline. The soils
consisted of slightly plastic loamy sand, below optimum moisture. To assess the strength of the
soils, a 5I8�" inch diameter smooth probe was used to penetrate the base of the excavation at
random. With full body weight applied, the probes indicated generally acceptable penetration within
the opposing sloped sections, with an increase in moisture and penetration observed in the fiat
shallow east and west ends. The east end of the excavation approached optimum moisture in some
sections, with probe penetration exceeding 2 feet.
The load bearing capacity of the soils were evaluated by a dynamic cone penetrometer tests
conducted at the base of the pool excavation. The dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP), employs a
eight kilogram (17.fi pound) hammer to drive a 20 miflimeter diameter canical point into the soil, with
the penetration recorded in millimeters per blow. From the DCP readings, a per blow, penetration
average was recorded and a N-value deri�ed. This N-value is an empirical refatianship we have
established to equate the dynamic cone data to the more familiar blows per foot (BPF) standard
penetration soil boring test.

IVote: Although test#1 indicates generally acceptable capacity, it only represents the composite
average of soil below 2 feet within the area tested. It should be noted that the first hammer drop or
set blow, penetrated over 560 MM, or 22" of soil. This upper layer of very soft su►face soil may
settle as construction loads are applieci. It is therefore recommended that the area represented by
Test#1, be corrected to increase consolidation and load-bearing capacity of the soils.
As recommended, the contractor completed the soil correction, and the soils were retested on
May 7, 2013 as follows:

In our opinion, with the noted soil correction, the observed and tested sub-grade soils are
acceptab{e, and would be expected to meet a target bearing capacity of 1200/13d0 PSF, for the
proposed construction. Our observations and subsequent soil evaluation for the project is limited in
scope to soil conditions observed within the pool excavation, and to the depths achieved by shallow
probes and dynamic cone penetrometer tests. Therefore, we are unable to assess sub-grade soils
at an elevation, which may be encountered by borings conducted as part of a standard subsurface
geotechnical investigation.
