PROP()SED PR03ECT DESCRIPTION
Describe the nature and purpose of#he proposed pmjec This work is being proposed to repair an erosion grobtem on a small
pond,prevent further erasion, and create s buffer for wiidlife. 'The pond was excavated about 40 years ago. Some drainage
changes under Fox Street conducted 6-7 years ago resulted in lowering of water levels ut the surrounding wetlands. Since that
time,the ground surface around the pond has dropped about 6"overdll and has sunk deeper in several areas along the eastern
edge of the pond befiween the pond and the driveway. The pond edge has been emding and now has a verticai bank,prone to
additional erosioa. 'Ie proposed project will stabilize the wetland edge,prevent furter erosion,and create a wetland buffer
for wildlife. Several areas along a l00'length of shoreline have eraded back a few fee The pand edge was previously straight
as evicnced 'm tie enclosed 2000 aeriai photo. A 12"coir log wiil be placed within 1-3 feet of the tce of the existing slope
and the vertica!bank will be grded and filled down to the coir lag. This wilt create a more stable slope and prevent future
erosion. Fill within the wetland will be linaited to 390 square feet or less. 1'he cunent wetland edge is well-defined at the
vertical bank.The bank was several in,ches higher bef4re the ground sutface dropped in the past 2 years.''he pand has aa outlet
cutvcrt on the west edge. Water levets are 18"belaw the top of bank.
The coir log will act as erosion/sediment controt at the tce of tie slope. Erosion control blanket will be placed over the fill and
exposed soils within the first 6-10 feet of the pond. The entire disturbed area will be seeded with a caver crop.A buffer strip
of native vegetation will be planbed along the pond edge.
(see additional information in the wetland application fann and attachments}
The pond is not a DNR pmtected water. The pond is tisted on the NWI as a PLTBF,but it was excavated about 40 yeazs ago. It
is actually a type 5 wetland(Circulaz 39),PUBH(NWI,Cowardin).
