Re: Proposed Storage Building
Dear Jim:
In reference to your proposed storage shed, the following
guidelines should be adhered to:
1. If shed has no permanent foundation and is 120 square feet in
area or less, it does not require a bui lding permit and must be
10' from the side lot line and 10' from the house. It would seem
that an 8'x15 shed would be able to meet these criteria, within
28' of space you have available. A 10'xl2' shed moved futher
forward on the lot (towards the south but not past the front of
the house) would also work.
2. If the shed is 121 s.f. or larger, it requires a building
permit and a set of plans would have to be submitted. The 10'
setbacks from house and lot line would still apply.
Please call me if you have further questions. If you need to go
the buiding permit route, we would require that your survey from Egan,
Field and Nowak be updated or amended by the surveyor to show the
actual setbacks of your existing house.
Sincerely,
