The septic inspection performed on September 3, 1992 revealed that the liquid level in the septic tanks was abnormally high and the drainfield appears to be located below a ditch which drains the small wetland to the north and east of the church. The ditch above the drainfield trenches had, standing water in it which appeared to be at approximately the same level as the liquid level within the septic tanks . The system was reinspected approximately four days later at which time the liquid level in the tanks had gone down to its normal level and the standing water was no longer present in the ditch area. The septic system must be inspected by a licensed septic contractor and myself to assume that the system is functioning properly by treating the effluent without polluting surface or ground waters. This can be accomplished by identifying the drop boxes and drainfield lines to determine whether the ditch is allowing surface waters to enter the system. If the ditch allows surface water into the system, effluent could exit the system as well which poses a health hazard. Please contact a septic contractor and then call to set up an inspection time so that we may determine what repairs or alterations may be made to alleviate this problem.
