1. Legal Description - Part of Government Lot 3 located in the SW '/4, of the NE '/4, of the NE %,
Section 36, Township 118, Range 23, City of Orono,Hennepin County, MN.
 2. Site Conditions - The 2.5 acre properly contains and existing residence that will be removed to
accommodate a new five bedroom residential home with a public water connection and private
onsite wastewater treatment system. The site is predominantly vegetated with deciduous trees and
shrubs. A 3%- 7% slope exists at the proposed drain field location.
 3. Soil Conditions — The Hennepin County soil survey indicates the soil in the area is mapped as a
Nessel Series. The soil texture is generally a loam surface over sandy clay loam/clay loam. Our
own soil borings found the depth to soil redoximorphic features to range from 30" - 4,4" within the
primary drain field site. The percolation rate in the 16 inches ranged from 10-16 minutes per inch.
 4. Sizing of Treatment System — The wastewater treatment system is desi ed for a five-bedr
home with no possible future bedroom additions. The installation of a gb age disposal has be n
I accommodated within the design. The estimated daily flow for a,t#ee-bedroom home is 750
gallons. c
I5. Description of the Treatment Process—
• Primary Treatment - Sewage is gravity discharged from the house a series of two septic tanks.
INatural biological activities taking place inside of the septic tank will separate solids and
suspected particles. Solids are reduced to some extent through this process.
I
I1
• Secondary T'reatment — Effluent from the clear zone of the septic tank flows into a lift tank.
Inside of the lift tank will be installed an Orenco Systems, Inc. BiotubeTM pump vault and
modified well pump. Suspended paRicles larger than 1/8" are filter out by the BiotuberM pump
't. _ .
._
_-...., Treatment— Filtered effluent is discharged out of the lift tank through the BiotubeTM pump
v,u1 o an above grade drain field. The effluent is applied over the drain field rock bed via a
lateral distribution network. As the-effluent trickles down through the rock bed into the sand and
soil, biochemical processes remove harmful viruses and bacteria.
  Q. ,:. ,. .. .
6. Description of Treatment System -

, • Septic Tank —Two 1,250 gallon precast concrete septic tanks. Inlet and outlet of the ta.nks must
have cast in place rubber fittings to create watertight seals. Install a 24" diameter heavy
corrugated pvc pipe riser over maintenance openings. A watertight seal must be created between
top of tank and the riser. Install a 24" diameter fiberglass riser cover with gasket, Orenco
Systems, Inc. model # FL24G(or equivalent). Do not bury riser cover.
• Lift Tank — 1,000 gallon precast concrete tank. Inlet of the tank must have cast in place rubber
fittings to create watertight seals. Seal the outlet end of the tank. Install a 24" diameter heavy
corrugated pvc pipe riser over maintenance opening above pump vault. A watertight seal must
be created between top of tank and the riser. Install a 24" diameter fiberglass riser cover with
gasket, Orenco Systems, Inc. model # FL24G(or equivalent). Do not bury riser cov,er.
;
• Screened Pump Vault — Install an Qrenco Systems, Inc. model #PVtJ57-1819 pump vault in the
lift tank through the maintenance hole. Install an Orenco Systems, Inc. modified well pump
model P50051 l, 115V, '/z hp, (or equivalent) in the flow inducer of the pump vault. Connect a
schedule 40 pvc discharge pipe to pump and extend discharge pipe through riser wall. Install a
camlock on the discharge pipe between pump and the riser for easy disconnect. Drill a 3/16"
weep hole at the invert of the 90 degree bend in the discharge pipe to allow drain back. Install
all high-pressure fittings.
• Mound Drain Field— Cut any vegetation to a height of 2-3". Remove any trees or brush that are
within the proposed drain field area. Rough up the area within the absorption area of the mound.
Install clean washed sand meeting the requirements of State Code Chapter 7080.0170, subpart
Sb, item 3, in the staked area of 38' x 83'. Create a level 63'L x ]0' W x 0.9' D, rock bed by
installing clean sewer rock, meeting the requirement of State Code Chapter 7080.0170 over the
washed sand as shovn in drawing detail. The elevation of the rock bed,:::;hed sand interface
shall be 111.1. Install the lateral netvork above rock bed, (see folloving description). The
2
l

I
invert elevation of the laterals shall be 111.6. Cover laterals with 2" of clean sewer rock. Cover
i entire bed area with a non-woven geo-textile fabric that is not so heavy as to prevent good air
exchange. Install a sandy to loamy soil material over the rock bed with a depth of one foot at the
enter of the bed, tapering to six inches at the sides. Install six inches of topsoil over the entire
mound. Establish a vegetative cover over the entire mound. The overall dimensions of the
mound will be 83'L x 38'W.
 • Supply Line — Install 2" schedule 40 pvc supply pipe from the discharge pipe on the outside of
the riser to mound rock bed. Use all high-pressure fittings.
J • Header — Install all schedule 40 pvc matenals. Install a header by using three 2' sections of
pipe, two 90 degree elbows and three tees. Connect the supply line to a tee just off center of the
header(see drawing detail). Install all high-pressure fittings.
• Lateral Network— Install 2" schedule 40 pvc pipe. Install four 61' laterals to the header. Prior
to attaching laterals to the header drill 3/16" diameter orifices into the pipe with the orifices
spaced 2.3 feet apart oriented downward. Drill the final orifice on each lateral oriented upward.
Insta112" orifice shields to laterals below each orifice including the last upward oriented orifice.
At the end of each lateral connect a 90 degree sweep followed by a 1.5" diameter ball valve.
Install a 12" diameter plastic valve box over the ball valve assembly setting the box so the cover
will be slightly above the finished grade when the mound is completed. Insta.11 all high-pressure
 ttings.
• Control Panel — Install an Orenco System, Inc. control panel model #MVP-S1PTR0 to control
the pump operations on a timed basis (see attached data sheet). Install the contrdl panel in an
interior space that will allow the alarin to be heard. Set the pump on/off timers to specifications.
' • Floats — Install Orenco mercury float assembly MF3A or equivalent for high-level alarm/timer
override, timer on, and redundant off floats. Attach floats to float assembly bracket spacing
floats as shown in drawing. Install float and pump wires out of the riser through pvc conduit up
to a watertight splice box mounted on a post. Seal both ends of the conduit.
 7. Limitations - Our investigation, layout, design, and recommendations are based on data submitted.
If conditions considerably different from those described in this report are encountered, we must be
notified. If proposed construction is changed, we must be notified to evaluate the effect of the
changes on the wastewater system. Any changes to the design must be approved by the designer and
will be assessed additional design costs. If changes are made to the design without the knowledge
and approval of the designer the design shall be void. All construction is to be in accordance with
 3

the ISTS regulations. Pipe type and size, installation requirements, septic tank construction, and
j other specifications not depicted in our report are to conform to ISTS regulations. The installer of
the system is to be licensed by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

2. Depth of percolation tests= 14 inches
3. Percolation rate= 20
 4. Land slope= 5 %
D1. Multiply flow rate (A) b 0.83 sq.ft./gpd to obtain required area of rock layer:
 A x 0.83 = 750 gpd x 0.83 = 622.0 sq.ft.
2. Select width of rock layer (10 feet or less) = 10 ft.
 3. Length of rock layer-area/width = 63 ft.
E1. Multiply rock area by rock depth to get cubic feet of rock:
 622 sq.ft. x 0.9 ft. = 559.8 cu.ft. + 56.0 cu.ft. for tapering
2. Divide cu.ft. by 27 cu.ft./cu.yd. to get cubic yards:
615.8 cu.ft. /27 = 22.g cu yd
 3. Multiply cubic yards by 1.4 to get weight of rock in tons:
22.8 cu.yd. x 1.4 ton/cu.yd. = 31.9 ns.
F1. Percolation rate in top 12 inches of soil = 2p mpi.
2. Select allowable soil loading rate from table: 0.45 dgp /sq.ft.

MOUND DIMENSIONS
' G. DETERMINE BERM WIDTH
1. Minimum Downslope Wdth =Adsorption Width - Rockbed Width
26.7 - 10 = 16.7 feet
 2. To calculate Minimum Mound Size:
a. Determine depth of clean sand fill at upslope edge of rock layer:
Separation 3 2.0 ft = 1_0 feet of sand below bed
b. Add depth of clean sand for separation (2a) at upslope edge, depth of rock layer(1ft)
to depth of cover(1 ft) to find the mound height at the upslope edge of rock layer:
a 1.00 ft + 1ft + 1ft = 3.0 feet
 3. Percent Slope = 5 %
4. Select Upslope Berm Multiplier= 3.3
 5. Multiply upslope berm multiplier by mound height to find upslope berm width:
3.33 x 3.0 feet = 10.0 feet upslope berm
 6. Add depth of sand for slope difference between upslope edge
and downslope edge of rockbed to mound height:
 3.00 feet + 0.5 feet = 3.50 feet
7. Select Downslope Multiplier= 5
8. Multiply downslope berm multiplier by mound height to find upslope berm width:
" 3.50 feet x 5 = 18.0 feet downslope width
9. Compare the values of G1 8 G9, select the greater of the two values for downslbpe width.
16.7 feet or 18.0 feet = 18.0 feet
 10. Total mound width = upslope berm + rockbed width + downslope berm
 10 feet + 10 feet + 18.00 feet = 38 feet
 11. Total mound length is the sum of berm widths + rock layer length
;
10.0 feet + 63 feet + 10.0 feet = 83 feet lona
