1. Applications for septic system permits may be mailed or submitted in person at the Ciry
Offices; however, permits will not be mailed out. The permit must be picked up in
person at the Ciry Offices and work must no[begin unless the permit card is on the job
site.
2. Pernaiu v.�ill be issued only to contractors holdin� a City of Orono Septic System
Installers License.
3. All work must be done in accordance with the approved septic system design. Desi?n
reports are not considered approved unless accompanied by the "City of Orono Septic
System Approval" cover sheet si�ned by the City Inspector.
4, The followin; inspections will be required for all septic systems:
A. Pre-installation site inspection to include inspector, installer, and general contractor.
B. Tank installation prior to coverin�.
C. Drainfield trench installation prior to covering. For mounds, inspection is required
afcer rouQh-up but prior to sand placement (sand will be jar tested for silt content),
and a�ain during pressure distribution pipinJ installation in the rock bed.
D. Fi.nal inspection to verify proper final cover depths and to verify that all pump station
(where required) components are functional and comply with codes.
5. Individual holdin�NIPCA Installer Certificate shall be present durinJ inspections: A 24-
hour notice is required for all inspections.

Dear Steve:
I have enclosed a copy of the On-Site Sewage Treatment System that
was designed by Steve Schumers of S-P Testing, Inc. for my home at 635 N.
Ferndale. Please review the attachment and send me the documentation
and/or approvals needed to proceed with the project.
I did have the e�sting tank inspected and it is of the old construction,
therefore, I will need to have the tank replaced also.
I do not plan to begin construction on the project until next suminer. If
you have any questions please call me during the day at 946-4305 or at home
in the evenings at 473-3947.

This On-Site Sewage Treatment System is Designed for a Type 1 , four
bedroom home Designed in accordance with the Minnesota Pollution
Control Agency Chapter 7080 and local ordinances .
This site has an existing non-conforming system with the bottom of
the system less than 3 ' ta the seasonally high water table (mottled
soil ) . A Soil Boring into the syste:n indicated the system is
hydraulically overloaded. The existing tank may be used upon
approval by the local Inspector. The tank must be water tight.
The soils on this site are a clay loam & sandy loam. A seasonally
high water table was located at 30" to 38" . A Shallow Trench System
may be installed 12" deep with an Interceptor Drain.
The soils at a depth o£ 12" have a percolation rate averaging
6 . 4 min/inch .
An Interceptor Drain will need to be installed at a minimum depth
of 4 ' below the bottom of the first trench with a maximum of 4 trenches .
Also a 10 ' horizontal distance between the trench and Interceptor
Drain. The Interceptor Drain must be backfilled with 3/4" diameter
rock or clean sand or gravel . If sand or gravel is used, the tile
must be wrapped with filter cloth. The rock must be backfilled within
12" of original grade & backfilled with 12" of original soil .
Approval will be needed for 75 ' setback from the wetland or Lydiard Lake .
All neighboring wells are located greater than 100 ' away from the
proposed treatment area .
Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment area before
and after construction. The treatment area should be marked off
before construction. This Design is not valid & the system will
need to be relocated if failure to protect the areas proposed
for On-Site Sewage Treatment occurs .

With proper installation and maintenance , this system should
have no problem in treating septic effluent effectively.
Nothing other than gray water (laundry, showers , etc . ) human waste
& toilet tissue should be disposed into the septic tanks . Garbage
disposals are not recommended. Excessive amounts of soaps , cleaning
agents & chlorine agents may kill the bacteria needed to treat
septic effluent. Additives are not recommended. Recommend to pump
& clean your tank through the manhole by a certified pumper every
year if you have 1 tank and every 2 years if you have two tanks .
Lydiard Lake has a 150 ' setback, approval will be needed to be
95 ' away.
