RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
A RESOLUTION INDICATING SUPPORT FOR A
COMPREHENSIVE PUBLIC ACCESS PLAN FOR LAKE MINNETONKA
WHEREAS, in 1983 and 1986 Citizen Task Forces determined
the need for additional reliable car and trailer parking spaces
on Lake.Minnetonka to support public access, and
WHEREAS, the first step in reaching the car/trailer
parking space goal for Lake Minnetonka is to develop a
comprehensive plan for the siting of accesses and parking spaces
around the lake, and
WHEREAS, it is very important that the comprehensive
plan be developed through a Task Force process which includes
representatives from the 14 lakeshore cities, the LMLOA and
interested citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Orono City Council
as follows:
1. The City Council supports the Task Force effort to
develop a comprehensive plan for the provision of
700 reliable car/trailer parking spaces around Lake
Minnetonka.
2. The initial efforts of the Task Force should focus
on Zone #1 including a determination of the number
existing reliable parking spaces and a determination
of the most suitable site for additional parking
spaces.
3. Council supports efforts to obtain funding through a
combination of sources to implement the
comprehensive plan for the provision of 700
car/trailer parking spaces.
4. The City Council opposes the DNR's purchase of the
Straley property on Maxwell Bay.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono,
Minnesota at a regular meeting held January 27, 1992.
