The mound system design area is 40!feet wide with a aength of 96 feet. Th system will
requze (2) 1250-gallon septic 1;ank, ancl(1) 1500-gallon pump tarc. Pump sizes will
nccd to deliver 42 gal.lons per r,rti.nute with a lift of 14 feet of total head.
The set back for the wcll from the s,ptic system area must be a min, imuxi of 50 feet for
both thc septic tanks and the absorption area. The septic tanks wiil need to be 10' from.
tae edge of the house. The power supply and switchs mu.st be located outside the
pumping chambe.r in a weatherp.roobox. This is For maintenance of thpump in the
future. '"b.e rock bed in thc mound will require 42 tons of washed rock.
West proneriy tine will need to be ocated and marked in field by the landowner to
determine if draineld ocaton is on the proerty.

20.0 ft minus 10.0 ft rock = 10.0 Fvot minimum adsorption area
2. Calculat minimum mound size:
a. Determine depth of c(ean sand at upsfope edge of rock layer:
From Site Evaluatian step C1: 18.0 inches clean sand
b, Add depth vf clean sand (2a) at upslope edge, plus 1 foot of rock plus 1 foot
of caver to get mound height at upslope edge or rock layer.
98.0 in ! 12 = 1.50 feet + 1ft+ 1ft = 3.50 feet upsfop height
c, Enter table with landslope ta get uplsope berm multiplier of 3.45
d. Multiply berm multiplier 2c by upslope mound height 2b to get uplvpe berm width:
3.45 X 3.50 equals 12.1 feet upslope berm width
e. Multiply rock layer width D2 by landslope to get drop in elevation:
10.00 feet X 4.0 %slope = 40.00 ! 100 = 0.40 feet
f. Add depth of clean sand for slope difference 2e at downslope edge, to the
mound height at the upslope edge of rock layer 2b to find downslope height:
3.50 feet + 0.40 feet = 3.90 feet downsfope height
g. Enter table with landsfope and downslvpe bern► multiplier of : 4.76
h. Multiply berm multiplier by downslope mound height to get downslope berm width:
4.76 feet X 3.90 equals 18.6 feet downslope berm width
i. Compare values of step G1 10.0 ft & G2h 15.6 ft
The greater of the finro values 18.6 is the downslope berm width
j. Total mound width is the sum of upslope berm width G2d, plus rock layer width

16.0 H20 X 37 gpi = 592 gallons to cover pump
4. Calculate tota( pump out volume
a. Calculate gallons per dose based on 4 pumping intervals per day
900 flow divided by 4 = 225 gallons per dose
b. Calculate drainback
(1) Pump pipe length 8 diameter = 60 length 2.0 in diam,
(2) Determine liquid volume of pipe from chart per 100 feet ^ 17.43
pIPE DIAMETER GAL/100 F' PIPE DIAMETER GAL I 100 FT
1.25 7_77 2.50 2A.87
1,50 10.58 3.00 38.40
2.00 17.43 d,00 88.10
(3) Multiply pipe length by volume divided by 100 to get drainback quantity
60.0 X 17.43 equals 1045.8 ! 100 = 10 gallons
5. Calculate total pumpout volume by adding pump dose #4a plus drainback #4b3
225.0 gallons + 10 gallons 235 gallons pumpout volume
6. Calculate volume for alarm based on 3 inches and tank GPI
36.0 gpi X 3 = 108 gallons
7. Calculate gallons to cover pump #3, pumpout volume #5, and alarm volume#6
592 plus 235 pfus 108 equals 935 gallons WITHOUT
RESERVE CAP.
8. If LUG requires 75% daily flaw as reserve capacifiy,
reserve capacity = 675 gallons
9. Minimum pump tank size WITHOUT reserve capacity equals 935 gallons
10_ Minimum pump tank size WITH eserve capacity equals 1610 gaflons
11. Float seperation distance equals pumpout volume #5 divided by tank gpi #2
235 divided 36,0 gpi = 6.5 inches to tether float

PUMP SELECTION PROCEDURE
A. Pump capacity
Already determined from PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION PAGE, line #7
Pump capacity = 42 GPMI
** Pump capacity should be between 20 and 40 GPM for charging a manifold
or for pumping to a gravity situation, ie, a drop box or distribution box.
B. Determine head requirements
1. Elevation difference between pump and the point of discharge = 8 ]
2. If pumping to a pressure disttibution system, add 5 feet of head required at the
manifold_ If pumping to a gravity system, use zero (0) feet of head.
3. Determine friction loss
a. Enter friction loss table with gpm 42.0 and pipe diameter 2.0
FRICTIQN LOSS IN PLASTIC PIPE
FLOW RA7E NOMINp,t, PIPE DIAMETER FLOW RATE NOMINA PIPE DIAMETER
IN GPM 1.5 2 3 IN GPM 1.5 2 3
20 2,47 0.73 0.11 35 6.96 Z,06 0.30
25 3_73 1,11 0.16 40 6.91 2.84 0,39
30 5.23 1.55 0.23 45 11.07 3.2$ 0.48
Friction loss 1,55 feet per 100 ft of pipe
b. Determine total pipe length from pump t discharge point = 60.0
Add 25% to pipe length above to accounfi fior fitting loss = 75,0 feet pipe
c. Calculate total frictian loss by multiplying friction foss in ftJ100 83a by
equivalent pipe length B3b above =
1.5 X 75.00 equals 116.25 / 100 = 1.2 ft head
C. Total head required is the sum of the elevation difference B1 plus additional pressure
for the manifold B2 plus the total friction loss 3Bc.
S.0 plus 5.0 plus 1.2 equals 14.2 ft total head
D_ The Pump requires 42,0 gpm and 14.2 fiet of head
