Dear Mr. Oman:
My wife and I are in the process of selling our home at 3075 Farview Lane in
Orono. The prospective buyers are from Illinois and they have not had any direct
experience with private wells/septic systems.
In April 1998 we arranged with Steve Schirmers of S-P Testing to design a new
mound system for our home. The current trench system is non-compliant
because there is less than 36" clearance between the bottom of the drainfield and
the top of the mottled soil level. The design is enclosed.
An addendum to the purchase agreement requires us to submit the plans to the
City of Orono and receive documentation regarding approval of the new septic
system design. In talking with Mike Gaffron earlier today, he suggested that I
contact you regarding this request. We would like approval as quickly as possible.

Dear Bruce:
Earlier today we discussed my letter of January 19, 1999 regarding a new mound
system at 3075 Farview Lane. You indicated that staff had reviewed the design
and indicated that it was acceptable. You also referenced the need for variances in
that the new system would be less than 75" from the current well locations at
3067 and 3075 Farview Lane.
At this time we are asking for a staff variance. We are requesting that the
variance granted to be transferable to the new owners of 3075 Farview Lane. In
addition we ask for your prompt response in that our current purchase agreement
requires us to provide documentation no later than February l, 1999. Thank you
for your continuing assistance.

Dear Mr. Taylor:
This letter is confirmation that the septic design for 3075 Farview dated April 16, 1998 is approved.
The setback to the neighbor's well is approved at 64' where the Orono Code requires 75' and the
State Health Department requires 50'. The setback to your well is approved at 53' where the Orono
Code requires 75' and the State requires 50'.
This approval runs with the property but expires one year from the date of this letter. If codes have
not become more restrictive, either as written or as enforced, this approval may be extended with
written request received 0-30 days before expiration.
