RESOLIITION DECLARING EARTH DAY W$ER
APRIL 22, 1990 IN THE CITY OF ORONO
WHEREAS, the week of April 22, 1990 marks the 20th .
anniversary of the first Earth Day; and .
WHEREAS, Earth Day_ was established to bring recognition
of the needs of the environment and that the unfeddered
consideration of development had previously had its negative
impacts on the environment; and
WHERSAS, human development globally has reached the
point where that development has had significant impacts on
certain parts of the environment; and
WHEREAS , the City of Orono has been a leader in '
protecting the natural environment, wetlands and other water
• resources during the last 20 years making development a positive
and not negative force in the environment; and
WHEREAS, a week such as Earth Day Week is an opportunity
to make people more cognizant of protecting the environment.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Orono
declares the week of April 22nd to be Earth Day Week in the City
of Orono; and
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that the City encourages people
not only be cogniznat of it, but i.n recognition plant a tree in
their yard in conjunction with Earth Day and Arbor, Day.
