Dear Lakeshore Property Owner/ Occupant:
With warm weather and boating season right around the corner, the City would like to remind
you that renting residential dock space is not allowed in Orono.
Orono Municipal Code prohibits residential property owners or occupants of residential property
from renting out boat slips at their private docks, regardless if there is a rental "fee" involved.
Attached is our dock rental information sheet on the subject.

Dear Mr. Grell:
I am writing in regards to a complaint this office received concerning multiple boats with
multiple owners docked on your property. I have driven by several times to verify the
first part of the complaint about multiple boats. I have verified three boats, all basically
the same size and type, each time I have driven by. The City of Orono prohibits the
renting out of dock space.
All�boats on private docks in the City of Orono must be registered to the property at
which they are docked. Please provide registration information for the three boats. If all
or several of the boats are registered to other parties then the address above they must be
removed from the property or become registered to the above address.
Please provide the necessary registrations or remove the offending boats by August 29,
2008. Failure to do so may result in this matter being referred to the City Attorney's
Office for legal action. If you have any questions please feel free to call, 952-249-4626.

Dear Mr. Thimmesh:
This letter is intended as a reminder of City of Orono boat docking regulations. During recent
boating seasons a number of boats not owned by the property owners or occupants have been docked
at slips at residential properties. This has produced more traffic and parked cars along the road and
has generated a number of complaints.
The Orono Municipal Code prohibits residential property owners from renting out boat slips at their
private docks. The provision of slippage for anyone other than the owners or occupants of the
property, regardless whether there is a `rental fee' involved, is prohibited. In brief, such activity is
considered to be the `business of docking, mooring or storing boats' which is only allowed within
the B-2 Lakeshore Business District.
City staff is monitoring the docks throughout the boating season checking for boats that are not
owned by the owners or occupants of the property. If it is determined that a boat is being docked
or stored in violation of municipal code, immediate removal of that boat will be required.
It has been determined that you are storing boats that are not licensed to the property. Please
remove all boats not registered to the property by June 20, 2003.
