. RESOLIITION OF CONGRATIJLATIONS f

WHEREAS, Greg LeMond is an Orono resident who has
distinguished himself through his athletic pursuits; and
WHSREAS, Greg LeMond has won the Tour de France Bicycle
Race on July 23, 1989; and
WHEREAS, this win was done by overcoming a 50 second
lead held by his competitor, to win by 8 seconds in a 15 mile -
stretch; and
WHEREAS, this herculean effort to win was done following �
three weeks of racing covering over 2, 000 miles; and �
WHEREAS, this win represented a come back from a near
fatal hunting accident for a second win after his 1986 win of the
� Tour; and
WHEREAS, this win was most notable for an American in
the Bi-Centennial year of the French Revolution. �
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Orono ;
takes this opportunity to adopt this resolution of recognition
for someone who has overcome almost fatal injuries to reach the
pinnacles of athletic ability in his chosen sport. `
FIIRTHER BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Orono extend its
congratulations for this fantastic _effort. .
