I have received a complaint regarding burning on your pro ert . The City of Orono does require a permit to open burn, even in a fire ring. I p y inspected the property on September 8, 2005 and found the burn pit/ring made of / stone at the end of your patio. Even though this does not meet the recommended setbacks of the permit, I would normally permit the site because it is a pit/ring. The complainant states that when you burn, the smoke comes in through the windows and she has to shut them. I am enclosing an application for a burnin permit. I will allow the burn pit/ring in its present location as long as I do notg receive anymore complaints. I would think it might help the situation if you did not burn when it is windy or perhaps discuss the matter with the neighbors to hel rectify their concerns. I have received yet another complaint about the burning in your pit. As I mentioned to you in the September 5 letter that I would allow the fire pit in its present location provided that I did not receive any further complaints. I allowed this despite the fact that the fire pit does not meet the i•equired setbacks for a recreational fire. I would lil<e to express tc yot, that bu:ning in the Ciiy of Or�no, even in a fire ring/pit, is a privilege not a right. I am giving you one additional warning to comply with the requirements for open burning. If I receive any additional complaints I will revoke your burn permit. Any fiirther burning after revocation will result in a misdemeanor citation from the Police Department. I have enclosed for your information a copy of the City of Orono Ordinance NO. 167 regulating open burnin� within the City. If you have any questions please feel free to call.
