Dear Lyle,
This letter is to follow i.�h on our telophone convcr�otion of today regarding itie Galvary
Memorial Church and School. At this time, Calvary has a building permit to add iwo
classrooms and two r�estrooms in the lower level_ At the request of the City of Orono, the
installation of an elevator was added to the building permit.
The Minnesota Accessibility Code Chapier 1341 requires that when alterations are made
to a primary function area of a building, then addition�l alterations providing accessibility
are to be made. These additional alte�ations do not need to exceed 20% of the original
amount of money being spent.
"_..The alteratior►s to the pafh of travel and the toilet rooms, te%phones, and
drinking fauntains serving fhe alteied ar�a need not exceed 20 per�ent of the
cost ofthe alt�iation to the primary function area..."
Minnesots Accessibility Code, Chapter 1341
13d1.0479, Subpart 2
A/terations to an area contain�ng a primary funcSon.
In this case, the alterations to the primary function area will cost between $26,000 and
$33,000, therefore Calvary should spend between $5,20Q and $6,600 on accessibility
improvements.An elevator will cost at feast$45,000, therefore, we would like ta alter
two restrooms on the main level and make#hem acc,essible, rather than install an
elevator. A cost estimate has not been calculated on the resttoom renovation, but we
assume it would be in the $6,000 range.

Later in 1978, a second Resolution was adopted provi3ing a reduction
in sewer use charges "until such time that . . . . . . . the use of the
proper;.y and buildinqs be changed" . It was ou�. understanding that
you int�ade�1 to notif� the City of actual school use as it may affect
these charges.
