MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, March 25, 2002 <br />• 7:00 o'clock p.m. <br />ROLL <br />The Council met on the above - mentioned date with the following members present: Mayor Barbara <br />Peterson, Council Members Jay Nygard, Jim White, Richard Flint, and Bob Sansevere. Representing <br />Staff were City Administrator Ron Moorse, Planning Director Mike Gaffron, City Attorney Tom <br />Barrett, Zoning Administrator Paul Weinberger, City Engineer Tom Kellogg, Public Services Director <br />Greg Gappa, and Recorder Jackie Young. <br />Mayor Peterson called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br />( #1) Approve /Amend <br />Items 5, 9, 15, 17, 18, and 22 were added to the Consent Agenda, and Item #8 was <br />removed from the Consent Agenda. <br />Flint moved, White seconded, to approve the Consent Agenda as amended. <br />VOTE: Ayes 5, Nays 0. <br />• INTERVIEWS <br />( #2) Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission <br />Robert Albertson addressed the City Council regarding the vacancy on the Lake Minnetonka <br />Communications Commission. Albertson stated he is interested in serving on the LMCC because he has <br />a vast experience in communications and in dealing with the regulations that govern that industry. <br />Albertson indicated he would like to see some improvements made to the Commission, and in his <br />opinion his past experience in dealing with the communications industry will aid him in making these <br />improvements. Albertson stated he would like to see the service improved and a review of the rates <br />conducted. Albertson noted he does hold an FCC license. <br />Flint expressed some frustration on the lack of ability of the Council to have an impact at the local level, <br />noting the accomplishments Albertson has achieved over the years have been achieved at the state level. <br />Albertson stated the FCC oversees the communications industry, and that in his view he has the ability <br />to approach the agency for assistance. Albertson stated he would take a pro- active role in improving the <br />rates and service. <br />Flint commented in his opinion any changes to the cable commission would need to take place at the <br />state level. <br />• Peterson indicated the Council would be making their decision at the next Council meeting. Peterson <br />inquired whether Albertson would be interested in keeping his name on the list if he is not selected this <br />time. <br />PAGE 1 <br />
