ALTERNATIVE COMPOSTING
. . . � .
WHEREAS , the Hennepin County Board is considering ._ `
establishing a composting center in western Hennepin County at a .
� � cost estimated at $10 - 25 million dollars; and
WHEREAS, such a center would cost about $8.410 per cubic
: yard to operate at it's inception and would involve heavy truck
traffic on local streets and road"s; and
. WHEREAS, such a center would be costly and cumbersome to
operate; and .
WHEREAS, farmers and land owners could benefit fr.om
• natural materials as fertilzers, but would incur some expenses in
their use; and
WHEREAS, farmers in Hennepin County have set aside 70fdfd
' acres for conservation reserve program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orono City
Council does hereby urge the Hennepin County Board to establish
direct recycling of leaves and other natural materials, offering
to pay a stated amount per ton to farmers and land owners who
will receive said materials directly from their source and
unbagged.

Minnesota at a regular meeting held May 23, 1988.
