• Install treated 4x4 skids. Position skids under the floor framing. For
a 6 ft. wide building, position the skids 4 inches from the sides of the
building; for an 8 ft. wide, 12 inches from the sides; for a 10 ft. and 12 ft.
wide, 4 inches from the sides with one skid in the middle. Use 16d
nails.
• Toe-nail the skids to the floor framing on the front and rear floor joists
first, then, make sure the floor framing is square by measuring
diagonally across the framing (corner to corner). When the
measurements are equal (in both directions) the framing is square.
Finish nailing the floor joists to the 4x4 skids using 2 na.ils per joist.
• Position floor framing in final location and level, using blocks, timbers.z,_,r
scraps, etc. ppbTO ,''

• Na.il plywood flooring to framework using 6d nails spaced 8-10 inches
apart. (see fig. 1-3) Note:for 12 ft. long buildings, some floor panels are cut
to 4 ft. lengths to allow the grain of all panels to be aligned in order to
'; maintain the strength of the floor.

2. SIDEWALL ASSEMBLY AND POSITIONING
• Before standing walls, nail siding panels to pre-framed side walls
using 6d nails spaced 8-12 inches apart on edges, and 16 inches apart
on the interior studs. Align top of panels with top of lx4 on wall
framing! This will leave an overlap on the bottom of the wall to
completely cover the floor plywood edge. (see fig. 2-1) Note that the wall
end panels have been cut off on one long edge, while the edges that
make up the interior wall seams, for any length building, are grooved to
provide an overlapped joint. Tip: place ugiy side of framing of wall facing
out.

3. END WALLS INSTALLATION
• Place unsided end wall sections between side walls, nail frames to
floor and side walls using 16d nails. Be sure to keep bottom plate tight
to floor. .p: place ugiy side of framing fa.cing out.
• Front wall framing comes as a completed rectangle. Install as is.
After installation of the front wall frame, carefully cut out the plate at
the bottom of the door frame, and nail the piece removed to the
underside of the door header. (see fig. 3-1)

4. RAFTER INSTALLATION
• Take roof sections and push over each side of the side walls, being
careful not to break the ridge when it comes down. (If ridge breaks, cut
a 2x4 piece between rafters and nail back together as a splice.)
• Nail roof trusses to side walls using 16d nails. Be careful to align the
bottom lx4 of each truss assembly with the top lx4 of each side wall
and toe-nail through the lx4's and into a side wall stud (you may need
help holding the assembly in place while you are na.iling). (see fig. 4-1)

• Align and nail truss assemblies together at the roof peak. Toe-nail
through the lx4's into the rafters. Make sure to flush up the ends of
the lx4's.
• Complete framing of the front and rear wa11s by nailing in the
additional studs marked "end wa11s studs" (see fig. 4-2). Note: only one
stud is used for the 6 ft. wfde building.
fl n. 42
• To complete the framing and to prevent the roof from sagging, collar
ties and stringers need to be installed.
During installation of the roof trusses a sma11 sag in the roof ridge
may occur. If so, prop a 2x4 between the middle of the ridge and the
floor, adjusting until the ridge is level, and install collar ties. Collar ties
are lx4 members that nail onto the sides of the rafters, directly under
the ridge boards. (see fig. 4-3)

• All buildings longer than 10 ft. need one or more stringers installed to
prevent roof sag. Stringers are Zx4 members that nail onto the bottom
ends of the rafter and on the top of the side walls. (see fig. 4-4) Tip: If you
want more room to store items aboue, piace si-nger under top plates.

5. FRONT AND REAR WALL SIDING INSTALLATION
• Na.il siding to front and rear framing as shown in fig 5-1. Use 6d nails
spaced as with side wall siding. Some siding for end walls must be held
in place, scribed, and then cut, or cut after nailing, to framing. Tip: To
rn.ake it easier to hold the siding in pIace, rest the siding on I 6d nails that
haue been pounded into the floor joist I /4 to 1 /2 inch below fhe bottom of
the flooring in a straight line. Note: The peak filler pieces need to be cut
to length before the roof angle is cut so that it fits under the extended
ridge boards.

• Insert z-flashing between siding sheets horizontally. For 8 ft. wide
buildings, align seam with peak and attach underlapped piece first. For
10 ft. wide buildings, note that on the rear wall, the siding is made from
one 4 ft. wide piece and two 3 ft. wide pieces, while the front siding is
made from two 4 ft. pieces and two 1 ft. pieces. Attach the underlapped
center piece first. The 8 ft. siding does not reach the peak on all models.
Where it doesn't, small pieces of siding are supplied to finish
installation.
! 6. FASCIA INSTALLATION
', • Install the long pieces of lx6 fascia (the vertical board that goes on
' the end of the rafters), so that the lx6 extends 9 3/4" past the last
rafter. The top of the lx6 should be placed so that when the roof
plywood goes on top of the rafter it will rest nicely on the top of the 1x6.
• Install the soffit blocks. These blocks should be installed flush with the
top of the rafters. Four pieces are longer, and should be nailed at the
bottom of the gable rafters. The others should be spaced evenly between
the ridge and the fascia. (see fig.6-1)

• Peak fascia pieces (lx6 in the bundle marked "peak trim and fascia")
come precut to the cut edge of the siding on the front and rear gables.
These pieces are to be installed flush with the top of the rafters and
even with the center of the ridge (see fig. 6-2). After nailing peak fascia
to side fascia, and to soft blocks, cut off extra length of peak fascia.

7. ROOF PLYWOOD INSTALLATION
• Install roof plywood flush with the fascia and toward the peak. Ti.p:
To m,ake in.stalIation of the first sheet easier, it is recommended that na.ils
be driuen into the top of the fascia, and the nails then be bent up. These
nails wili keep the sheet from sliding off the roof. (see fig. 7-1) Note: If the
edge of first sheet is not parallel with the rafters, you will need to re-
level the building (the building has sunken into the ground and needs
to be brought back to level).

8. INSTALI,ATION OF ROOF EDGING
• Pieces of lx2 material are now installed to cover the exposed edges of
the roof plywood. Tip: It is usually easier to install sides first, and then
the ends. (see fig. 8-I)

9. INSTALLATION OF SOFFIT
• The four pieces of soffit that are of equal length are for the gable ends,
install these first. The other pieces fit in along the sides of the building.
Before applying, trace vent onto back of soffit plywood and cut an
opening small enough so that the vent will cover the cut-out. Note: It is
possibie to instali uents into the gabie ends also.
1 O. INSTALLATION OF DOORS
• Install doors by putting a spacer under the doors and then aligning
them. Leave a space of at least 1 /4 inch. Tlp: A fwo deep layer of
roofing shingles between the floor and the doors works weil. Use enough
nails to fasten the hinge boards securely. Temporarily tack the hinge
boards and check operation before completely nailing. Measure the
distance from outside of one hinge board to outside of the other hinge
board and cut from the lx4 piece with 45° angle already cut. Install
single lx2 above first, as a door stop, then attach sides. (For double
doors: remaining lx4 will be nailed to the back of stationary door where
doors come together.) Install hardware as desired.
11. INSTALLATION OF CORNER TRIM
• Install lx4 inch pieces for corner trim. Nail lx4 with square ends
flush with end wa11 siding while holding tight to underside of rafter.
Next, with angled lx4 upward, nail piece flush with corner trim on side.
Repeat for all corners.
12. SHINGLE ROOF
• Start at the eaves of the building and work toward the ridge. The
starter course is made of shingles turned upside down, and the first
course is nailed directly on top of the starter course, but offset half a
tab. The shingles should extend 3/4 inch past the roof edging on the
sides and ends of the building. Use the nails provided and place nails
in the seal-down strip. Four nails are needed for each shingle. Each
course of shingles is offset a minimum of 6 inches side to side and is
exposed to the top of the tab to the weather. (see fig 12-1) Note: For
m.ore detail, please refer to the instruction.s on the bundies of shingies.

• The peak of the building is covered with 1 foot pieces of shingles
(3 pieces cut from 1 shingle) lapped across the peak and nailed on each
side of the ridge.
13. WIlVDOWS
• Choose height for ,vindow by installing top and bottom 2x4 members.
Measure down from top of wall and use window to mark bottom frame
1/4n to 1 /2" bigger than window. Mark siding to be cut by drilling holes,
or pounding nails from the inside corners of window frame through the
siding. Install window stops (lx3 pieces), flat against framing members
and flush with outside of siding. Do top and bottom first. Next, install
outside trim (lx4 pieces). Do the sides first, then top and bottom. Tip:
Ieaue a little bit of reveal on the window stop edges to get a better look.
Install hardware and hang.
14. CAULK ALL SEAMS
• Caulk all seams and trim, especially horizontal seams above door
and horizontal trim on doors. Tip: this will enable the doors to last
longer.
