Applications for septic system permits may be mailed or submitted in person at the City Offices; however, permits will not be mailed out. The permit must be picked up in person at the City Offices and work must not begin unless the permit card is on the job site. 2. Permits will be issued only to contractors holding a City of Orono Septic System Installers License. 3. All work must be done in accordance with the approved septic system design. Design reports are not considered approved unless accompanied by the "City of Orono Septic System Approval" cover sheet signed by the City Inspector. 4. The following inspections will be required for all septic systems: A. Pre-installation site inspection to include inspector, installer, and general contractor. B. Tank installation prior to covering. C. Drainfield trench installation prior to covering. For mounds, inspection is required after rough-up but prior to sand placement (sand will be jar tested for silt content), and again during pressure distribution piping installation in the rock bed. D. Final inspection to verify proper final cover depths and to verify that all pump station (where required) components are functional and comply with codes. 5. Individual holding MPCA Installer Certificate shall be present during inspections. A 24- hour notice is required for all inspections. a NOTE: Applicant must initial all spaces. Tovnship 1 18, Rane 23, Minncsota. Dear Steve: This proposed on-site septic system was designed for a 5 bcdroom home, with an estimated tlow of 70 gallons per day. Due to mottled soils at a depth of 26" in the primary site, the primary system will need t be a mound sstem ith I?' t'sand under the rockbecl at the upslope side. The site in hich this s;ten is proposed has a aera; eistin >round slopc of 6",,_ and perclation rates ranin, frcm 7.9- 1 G ']P1. The rock bed size ill hc 10 feet ide and 63 fect ionith the overall diinsions of the primar mund bein 8 feet lonand 38.7 fet wide. The mound s}stem ill require to 10( allon septic tanks and a 1300 «allon pump tank. :n alternate sepiic sstciT ha, hen shon on the pian t ;h thn thr is enouh undi;tiirhed area on the lot to support anothcr ;eptie sstm. "lhis svstem ill aiso nce1 t be a mound systein. Mottled sils were found at a depth of?6 and the average slope of the area is 6%. This system will not need to be constructed unless the primar` mound fails. Certain precautions will need to be made to protect the areas in vhich the above referenced septic systems are proposed. Both primary and alternate septic areas have been or will be staked off. [t is critical that tlle soil is not disturbed before, during, and after construction of the system. These systems should treat the septic effluent effectively if the systems are installed properly and are maintained properl}'. It is recommenced that the septic tanks be pumped every two years. This will reduce the chance of solids reachin the mound system. It is also recommended not to use ezcessive amounts of chlorine, soaps, and chlorine products which can kill bacteria in the septic tanks. This bacteria is needed to treat the septic eftluent. If yuu have any questions in reards to this design, I will be happ to anser them. I can be reached at (61?) 682-2587.
