1, Applications for septic system permits may be mailed or submitted in person at the Ciry
Offices; however, permits will not be mailed out. The permit must be picked up in
person at the City Offices and work must not be�in unless the permit card is on the job
site. �
2. permiu will be issued only to contractors holdin� a City of Orono Septic System
Installers License.
3, AIl work must be done in accordance �vith the approved septic system desi�n. Desi�n
reports are not considered approved unless accompanied by the "City of Orono Septic
System Approval" cover shee[ si�ned by the Ciry Inspector.
4, The follow•in� inspeccions will be required for all septic systems: _ .
A. Pre-installation site inspection to include inspector, installer, and general contractor.
B. Tank installation prior to coverin�.
C. Drainfield trench installation prior to coverin;. For mounds, inspec[ion is requued
after rouah-up bu[ prior to sand placement (sand will be jar tested for silt contenc),
and a�ai.n durin; pressure distribution pipinJ installation in the rock bed.
D. Final inspection to verify proper final cover depths and to verify that all pump station
(where required) components are functional and comply with codes.

This on-site sewage treatment system ;s designed for a Type 1, five bedroom home, in
atxorda�nCe wi#h the Minnesota PoHution Control Agency Chapter 7080 and local
ordinances.
1"he soils on this site are typical of�+B - �eSueur loam - _ The seasonal�y saturated
soils were loc,�ted at 18" to 38" (mottled Soil}. Due to the se�sonafly saturated soils, a
Pressurized Mound System will need to be installed to treat septic effiuent. The bottom
of the treatment area must be located at least 3' above the saturated soils.
The soits at a depth of 18" have a per�olation rate averaging 11.fi mpi.
A pumping chamber wili need to be installed to lift the effluent to the treatment area.
The power supply and switches must be la�ted outside the manhole a�d pumping
chamber in a weather proof enclosure. A waming device must be installed with a light
and sound device, this is in case of a pump failure.
The manif�otd and supply iine pipe must t�ave badc drainage to the pumping chamber.
The distribution pipes shall have their ends Capped_ 8e sure the rock and sand fill
material are clean_ The sod layer below the entire mounded ar�ea must be tumed over,
just break up the sod, be sure not to over work_
A!I neighboring weils are located greater than 100' away from the proposed treatment
area.

Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment areas before and after
constructio�. The treatment area should be marked off before construction. This
Design is not valid 8 the system will need to bE relocated if failure to protect the aneas
proposed for On-Site Sewage Treatment oocurs.
W�th p�oper instatlafion and maintenanCe, this system should have no probiem in
treating septic eftluent effectively.
Notfiing other than human waste, toilet tissue, iaundry, shower5, water softener etc.
should be disposed of into the septic tanks. Ifon filters must be diverted out of the
system. Garbage disposals are not recommended, due to adding more solids � fine
solids passing through to the system. Excessive amounts of soaps, Geaning agents &
chiorine agents may kill the bacteria needed to treat septic effluerrt. Addfives are not
recommended. Recommend to pump 8� clean your tanks through the manhole by a
certfied pumper every 2 years_ Check with your pumper to set up a schedule_
