A Compliance Inspection was completed for the existing on-site sewage treatment
system located on this property. The system consists of 2-1300 gallon septic tanks, 1-
1300 gallon pumping chamber a pressurized mound system with a 10' x 68' rock bed.
The rock bed is hydraulically overloaded & is discharging in the northwest corner of the
rock bed which is classified as an imminent health hazard & must be repaired or
disconnected within 10 months or as determined by the City of Orono.
oil borings completed into the rock bed found no black soils above the rock which
indicates the rock bed has not been overloaded for a long period of time. Long term
overloading would allow soil to settle where the rock sand meet. Soil boring #1 found
mottled soil (redox features) at 20" below the surface & the bottom of the rock bed was
found at elevation 89.8 & the original soil at elev.88.5 which leaves 1.3' of sand below
the rock bed. Soil boring #2 found mottled soil at 28" below the surFace &the bottom of
the rock bed at elev.89.7 & the original soil at elev.88.1 which leaves 1.5' of sand below
the rock bed. This system meets a 3' separation from the bottom of the rock bed & the
redox features & is classified as in compliance with Minnesota Chapter 7080 rules. Soil
borings through the mound & soil probing along the downslope toe of the mound found
fihe sand to be dry, no overloading.
The proposal is a Multi Flo Class 1
Aerobic Wastewater Treatment System or a unit that is equal to the Multi-Flo that has
positive filtration. The highly treated, filtered effluent produced by the Multi-Flo is over
95% free of the normal sewage contaminants that cause the progresive failure of
conventional systems. The unit will be a 750 gal/day. A trash trap is installed in front
of the Multi-Flo. The unit requires to be serviced 2 times a year which will be done by
Schirmers Wastewater Treatment Systems, Inc. A 2 year service & parts warranty
comes with the purchae of the unit. After that time, the homeowner is required to carry
a Service Contract at $150.00 a year (2006 price). A report is sent to the homeowner,
city, MPCA & Multi-Flo yearly. T,h hi , i-tr thrivP R

. - , The rock bed & 6" of soil below the rock bed will
need to be removed & replaced to elevation 89.8 & replace the rock bed, distribution
pipes, sandy loam cap 8 topsoil.
Prior to working on the mound, the vegetation must be mowed off approximately 4" tall.
The exiting 1st 1300 gallon tank will be used as a trash trap. The 2nd 1300 gallon
tank will pump (pump #1) to the Multi-Flo Unit using a timer & pumping 15.6 gallons
every 30 minutes using 9' of head pressure at 25 gal/min. Pump #1 must be set on the
bottom of the tank, no block below the pump. The effluent will flow gravity from the
Multi-Flo Unit to the existing 1300 gallon pumping chamber (pump #2) which will pump
to the mound system 6 times/day at 125 gal/cycle.
The soil around the existing tanks must be reshaped to have the manhole covers at the
surface.
Recommend to the check the pumping in the distribution pipes & if salids are found,
clean the distribution pipes with a Jetter.
All property lines are approximate & must be located prior to installation.
All neighboring wells are located greater than 100' away from the proposed treatment
area.
2
 , ,
Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment area before and after
construction. The treatment area should be marked off before construction. This
Design is not valid &the system will need to be relocated if failure to protect the areas
proposed for On-Site Sewage Treatment occurs.
With proper installation and maintenance, this system should have na problem in
treating septic effluent effectively.
Nothing other than human waste, toilet tissue, laundry, showers, water softener etc.
should be disposed of into the septic tanks. Iron filters must be diverted out ofi the
system. Recommend to divert the water softner also. Garbage disposals are not
recommended, due to adding more solids &fine solids passing through to the sysfiem.
Excessive amounts of soaps, anti-bacterial soaps, cleaning agents, shower cleaners
used every shower & chlorine agents may ki{I the bacteria needed to treat septic
effluent. Additives are nofi recommended. The trash trap, Mutti-Flo and pumping
chamber will need to be pumped out when the setable solids reach 50% in the unit.
This will be determined at the time of the services. Recommend laundering be limited
to 3 to 4 loads per day. Recommend to turn off your water when you are on vacation or
not home for a period of tim.
