A Compliance inspection was compieted for the exlsting on-site sewage treatment
system located on this property. TMe system consists of 1-1250 8 1-1000 gallon
septic tanks, 1-1250 gallon pumping chamber&a pressurized mound system built in
1992. SB#1 fpund mottled sotl(redox features)at 6"into the originai soil(less than
12"mottled at the surface). Boring#2 found mottied soii at the orFginal soil
(surFace). These soils are located in an area of a drainage swale. SB#3 found the
original soil at 24", elev.95.5&the bottom of the rock bed at elev.85.9 leaving.4'of
sand below the mound 8 a.4'separation from the bottom of the systam & redox
features. SB#4 found the originai soil at 24",elev.95.4 8 the bottoin of the rock bed
elev.95.7 leaving.3'of sand 8.a.3'separation. This system is classitied as non-
compliant due to not meeting the required separation from the bottom oi the rock
bed 8 redox features. The bench mark used for the inspection was the top ot the
maintenance hale at the pump tank.
A tank Integrity report was completed which found the concrete to be crumbiing
above the water Ifne 8 ground water entering the tanks after the frost. These tanks
are classified as non-compliant&will nesd to be replaced. Causes for the concrete
to crumble are strong disinfectants, antibacterial soaps,et.
This onsite sewage treatment system Is designed for a Type i system,7ype 1,five
bedroom home in accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency chapter
708d& locai ordinances.
7he west end of the rock bed will be 10'trom the toe of the mound to the property
line. The aborption area at the west end will be 25'from the property line.
The west property line wili need to be located prior to installatfon.

The soils on this site are a clay loam. The seasonaliy saturated soil, mottted soil
(redox teatures)were present at a deqth of 12"to 16'. A pressurized mound system
witl be installed. The bottom of the treatment area must be located at leaat 3'above
mottled soil.
A pumping chamber will need to be installed to Iift the effluent to the treatment area.
The power supply 8 switches must be located outside the manhole&pumping
chamber in a weather proot enclosure. A warning device must be installed with a
light 8 sound device,tMis is in case of a pump failure.
The manifold 8 supply line must have back drainage to the pumping chamber. The
distrlbution pipes shail have their ends capped. Be sure the rock 8 sand itil material
are clean. The sod layer below the entire mounded area must be turned over, just
break up the sod.
If the tanks have less than 2'of cover, the lids, risers&malntenance hole covers
must be insulated to a value of RiO.
Cleanouts for each lateral must be insulated &be accessible from finished grade in
an irrigation box with a ball valve.
All neighboring welis are located greater than 100'away from the proposed
treatment area.
Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment area betore and after
construction. The traatment area shouid be marked off before construction. 7his
design Is not valid 8the system wtll need to be relocated if faiture to protect the
sites for new on-s[fe sewage systems.
MANA(3EMENT PLAN:
The tanks need to be maintained at a minimum of 1 time every 2 years, check with
you pumper to set up a schedule.
System inspected for areas by owner 8or Inspector as determined by the local unit
of 6overnment.
Any other requirements as determined by the locai unit of Government.

With proper installation &maintenance,t6is system should have no problem in
treating septic eHluent effectively.
Nothing other than human waste, toilet tissue, laundry, showers, water softners etc.
shouid be disposed of into the system. Recommend iron filters be diverted out of the
system.Garbage disposals are not recommended. Exceasive amounts ot soaps,
antibacterial soaps,cleaning agents,shower cieaners usad every shower&chlorine
agents may kill the bacteria needed to treat septic etfluent. Additives are not
recommended. Recommend laundering be limited to 3 to 4 loads per day.

To: Orono residents on mound type septic systems
From: Willie Gibbs, ISTS Manager
Date: May 10, 2006
Re: Landscaping Do's and Don'ts for Mound Systems, Quick Reminder
Do plant and maintain a full cover of grass and keep mowed to a normal height, this grass cover aids
in the evaporation of large amounts of effluent (the liquid left after the "othe' stuff has been removed)
in the summer time and allows the mound system to help breakdown nitrogen in the effluent.
Do water the grass over the mound in extreme dry conditions, sparingly.
Do avoid unnecessary foot traffic over the mound, mow it and stay off of it. This is especially true in the
winter time. Even human foot traffic can cause frost to penetrate the mound resulting in potential
freezing problems.
Do inspect your mound system annually for winter kill, (reseed if necessary) animal damage,
(burrowing) or signs of potential failure.
Do not plant trees or shrubs on the mound system, smalier trees and shrubs may be planted at the
edges. Remember, that sunshine is the key to a healthy maund system.
Do ask questions, if you have any concerns or questions concerning your mourd systert
please feel free to call me, I can be reached at 952-249-4626.
