FYI—Ken Ronsberg has confirmed with MCWD that the pool installation at 2655 Countryside Drive will not disturb over
5,000 square feet of area or SO cubic yards of soil, so MCWD will not be requiring an erosion control permit for this

Hi Ken,
I took a look on-site this morning and determined that there is no wetland within 150'of the location of the
proposed pool. Since the pool will not be disturbing the wetland located a bit further to the southwest, MCWD
would not require a wetland protection permit for this project.The only MCWD rule that might be triggered is our
erosion control rule,which requires a permit whenever 50+cubic yards of earth is excavated,filled, or stored on-site
(or when 5,000 square feet of earth surface is disturbed). If your project meets those threshold levels of disturbance,
you need to apply for a MCWD permit; otherwise, you do not.
Melanie&Chris—just an FYI, as I'm not sure if the City regulates pool projects.

On June 16, 2015 the City received a building permit application for a pool. Staff conducted a preliminary review
based on the information provided and recommends the following items be submitted or revised in order for your
application to be considered complete and for the plan review to continue:
1. Certificate of Survey. Staff has reviewed the survey and has the following comments.
a. The survey should clearly identify which improvements are existing and which are proposed.
Currently the pool is the only project shown as "proposed". Please update the survey and submit for
our review.
b. The pergola appears to be 9-feet from the pool basin. According to City Code Section 78-1438
(attached) structures must be separated by 10-feet. Please adjust pergola location and submit an
updated survey.
c. It is unclear which side of the property will be used for construction vehicles. The septic areas should
be fenced off and inspected prior to the commencement of the project.
2. Separate City Permits Required for:
a. Zoning Permit. The retaining walls, patios and walkways to be constructed including a� additional
exterior/landscaping improvements, i.e. patios, grading, sidewalks, retaining walls, require a
separate Zoning Permit(application attached).
b. Building Permit. A building permit is needed for the construction of the Pergola.
An email dated May 7, 2015 from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) discusses the wetland being
further than 150' from the proposed project; thank you for the clarification. The email does however address a
potential need for an erosion control permit. Please contact the MCWD directly at 952-471-0590 regarding your
project. Please note, the City of Orono will not issue a building permit without a copy of MCWD permits or
documentation from the MCWD stating the proposed project does not trigger any of their permitting requirements.

FYI—a pool project is being proposed at 2655 Countryside Drive West.There is a wetland just west of the property. I will
take a look on-site once field conditions improve to see if any portion of that wetland extends onto this praperty and
would trigger a delineation requirement (for Orono or for MCWD).

Attached you will find a site plan, the survey with the pool, and an areal photo of the site with the
same information overlaid. I am waiting for the landscaper to agree or move the pool slightly prior to
getting the survey company to update the survey. If the pool is not where I have it currently it may
move slightly to the East.
The pool is sprayed out in the yard and you may visit if time permits.
If you cannot open the attachments let me know and I will send it in another format.

Yes, I would be interested in taking a look on-site to see whether a wetland delineation will be necessary and whether
MCWD wifl need a permit application. Right now my wetland site visits are on hold until the vegetation greens up a bit
more so that I can conduct thorough assessments, but I will be in touch once field conditions improve to schedule a visit.
