Three soil borings were completed in the area for an alternate on-site sewage
treatment system for this property. Mottled soil (redox features) was present at 18" &
26" below the ground surface. A pressurized mound system will need to be used to
adequately treat septic effluent.
Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment areas before & after
construction.
Nothing other than human waste, toilet tissue, laundry, showers, water softener etc.
should be disposed of into the septic tanks. Recommend Iron filters be diverted out of
the system. Recommend to divert the water softner also if the iron filter is diverted.
Garbage disposals are not recommended, due to adding more solids & fine solids
passing through to the system. Excessive amounts of soaps, antibacterial soaps,
cleaning agents, shower cleaners used every shower & chlorine agents may kill the
bacteria needed to treat septic effluent. Additives are not recommended. Recommend
to pump & clean your tanks through the manhole by a certified pumper every 2 years.
Check with your pumper to set up a schedule. Recommend laundering be limited to 3
to 4 loads per day.

This On-Site Sewage Treatment System is Designed for a Type l , five
bedroom home in accordance with the Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency Chapter 7080 and local ordinances .
The soils on this -itr are SS soils mapped - L,rB - Lest2r loam.
A seasonally high water table was located at 12" to 24 " , (;nottled
soil ) . Due to the seasonally high water table , a Pressurized
Mound System will need to be installed. The bottom of the rock
bed must be located at least 3 ' above the seasonally high water
table .
The soils at a depth of 12" have a percolation rate averaging
8 . 1 min/inch.
A pumping chamber will need to be i:stalled to lift the efflaent
to the treatment ara .
The manifold and supply line pipe must have back drainage to the pumpinq
chamber . The distribution pipes shall have their ends capped. Be sure
the rock and sand fill material are clean . The sod layer below the
entire mounded area must be turned over , just break up the sod, be sure
not to over work .
The power supply and switches must be located outside the manhole and
pumping chamber in a weather proof enclosure . A warning device must
be installed with a liqht and sound device, this is in case of a pump
failure . Mercury floats are a good methad.
All neighboring wells are located greater than 100 ' away from the
proposed treatment area .
CONT ' D
Dickey site
lot 7, block 1
Orono
( 2)
Keep all heavy equipment off of the proposed treatment area before and
after construction. The treatment area should be marked off before
construction . This Design is not valid & the System will need to
be relocated if failure to protect the areas proposed for On-Site
Sewage Treatment occurs .
With oroper installation and maintenance , this system should have no
problem in treating septic effluent effectively.
Nothing other than gray water, ( laundry, showers , etc . ) human
waste & toilet tissue should be disposed of into the septic tanks .
Garbage disposals are not recommended. Smaller amounts of laundry
soaps , dish soaps , cleaning agents , etc. are better for the system.
Antibacterial soaps & chlorine agents may kill the bacteria needed
to treat septic effluent properly. Additives are not recommended,
they may cause harmful damage to your system. Recommend to pump
clean your tanks by a certified pumper every year if you have
1 tank & every 2 years if you have 2 tanks to insure proper
maintenance .

From: Willie Gibbs, ISTS Manager
Date: May 10, 2Q06
Re: Landscaping Do's and Don'ts for Mound Systems, Quick Reminder
Do plant and maintain a full cover of grass and keep mowed to a normai height, this grass cover aids
in the evaporation of large amounts of effluent (the liquid left after the "othe' stuff has been removed)
in the summer time and allows the mound system to heip breakdown nitrogen in the effluent,
Do water the grass over the mound in extreme dry conditions, sparingly.
Do avoid unnecessary foot traffic over the mound, mow it and stay off of it. This is especially true in the
winter time. Even human foot traffic can cause frost to penetrate the mound resulting in potential
freezing problems.
Do inspect your mound system annuaily for winter kill, (reseed if necessary) animal damage,
(burrowing) or signs of potential failure.
Do not plant trees or shrubs on the mound system, smalier trees and shrubs may be planted at the
edges. Remember, that sunshine is the key to a healthy mound system.
Do ask questions, if you have any concerns or questions concerning your mound system
please feel free to call me, I can be reached at 952-249-4626.
