HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2248 . � � � c�t� o� oR,oNo • � � RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL � NO. 2248 • - • • SPECIAL COMMENDATION MARR MORAN WHBREAS, Mark Moran has been a Patrol Officer with the City of Orono since August 1986; and WHEREAS, Mark Moran has been a Police Officer in Medina and Hazen, North Dakota since August 198PJ; and WHEREAS, Mark Moran has been involved in numerous burglary investigations, a criminal sexual conduct case, numerous theft by check cases, narcotics arrests, etc., during the past year; and WHEREAS, Mark Moran has received five letters of appreciation from the Police Department and the City Attorney; and WHEREAS, Mark Moran, while on routine patrol, stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation, and subsequently arrested the driver , Gene � Robert Zahl of Orono, for driving under the influence. A search of the vehicle prior to being impounded revealed a small amount of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. As a result of further investigation, Officer Moran put together and conducted a search warrant on the home of Mr. Zahl , and subsequently recovered 25.1 grams of cocaine. Cocaine of one gram weight sel ls for $ 10P1-$ 150 on the street , bring ing value of this cocaine to approximately $$2,5�0 to $3,8P10. Through the efforts of Officer Moran, Mr. Zahl was charged by the Hennepin County Attorney's office with DWI, possession of a controlled substance - Schedule II, unlawful possession with intent to se 11 a controlled substance - Schedule II and wil 1 be bil led about $14l,0�� by the State Department of Revenue for not having appropriate tax stamps for the controlled substances. • NOW, THSREFORE BE IT RSSOLVED, that Officer Moran be commended for his dedication, investigative skills, and initiative iri furthering the Department's objectives in making the Orono Police jurisdiction a secure community. - Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota, at a regular meeting held August 10, 1987.
