Dear Mrs. Ortenblad:
A retaining wall was built recently on the south side of your
property. A land alteration permit should have been acquired
before this work was started.
I inspected the site and told the crew of the need for a permit.
They informed me that both you and your neighbor were in
agreement on the location of the new wall, approximately the same
as a previous cement block wall. Under these circumstances, and
since halting work could have resulted in erosion, work was
allowed to continue.
However, a permit is still required. Please fill out the
enclosed permit application and draw the location of the new wall
on the survey copy. Also, indicate height of the wall and amount
of new fill behind the wall. Your contractor would probably do
thi s f or you. -
If you have any questions please call .

Re: Retaining Wall
Dear Mr. Theilmann:
It has come to the attention of this department that you have recently constructed a retaining wall
on your property next to the road. Unfortunately the retaining wall is too close to the road. Orono
City ordinance prohibits obstructions in the road right-of-way. On your area of Casco Point the
right-of-way is 10' from the edge of the pavement. The 10' is needed for utilities and for road
maintenance such as snow plowing.
Therefore, the City must require you to move the wall back a minimum of 10' from the edge of the
pavement. A deadline of 7/27/98 has been established for removal form the right-of-way. If you
have a problem with meeting this deadline or if you have any questions please feel free to contact
me at my office.
Sincerely,

Re: Retaining Wall
Dear Mr. Theilmann:
After meeting with you and discussing the matter with the Public Services Director, the only
solution is to move the wall back 10' from the edge of the pavement. If you have any questions feel
free to contact Greg Gappa or myself at the City offices.
Sincerely,
