Dear Mr. Fruen:
The City of Orono has been requested to provide a street
address numbering system for Big Island properties. Each
property has been assigned a consecutive number starting at Big
Island Veterans' Camp and going south around the Island. These
numbers will be kept on file at the City offices and may be used
for identification and emergency purposes. The attached map
indicates the new address assignment (i.e. 100 - address; ( 03 ) -
property identification number). All appropriate entities will
be notified of this assignment.
We are asking property owners to post their new address. It
should be posted at the end of your dock so those approaching the
island may easily identify properties. However, if this is not
feasible, please post somewhere near the entrance (from the
lakeside) to the property.
Your new address for property which you own on Big Island,
Orono is as follows:

Please be advised that the postal service will not be
delivering mail to the Island, and you should still retain and
use your post office box for mail delivery.

Re: Deck Construction - Record Lot #32 , Big Island
Dear Mr. Fruen:
It has come to the attention of this Department that a deck
has recently been constructed on your property on Big Island.
This letter is to inform you that a building permit is
required for deck construction in the City of Orono. Building
permits are required to ensure that building and zoning codes are
met. It appears the deck may be too close to the lake. The
zoning code requires a 75' setback f rom the Lake.
Your options are to remove the structure or apply for a
building permit and possibly apply for a variance to the zoning
code. Enclosed for your review are permit and variance

Re: 400/410 Big Island - Subdivision of a Lot Line Rearrangement - 10' Strip
Dear Mr. LaFleur:
We are in receipt of your request in regards to the 10'strip which was conveyed in 1986 from Fruen to
Granrud but never approved by the City. In reviewing the files for these addresses I find that I had sent
a letter to Robert Granrud in 1998 regarding how to proceed. A copy of that letter with supporting
information is attached.
The process for approval of lot line rearrangement involves one meeting with the Plauning Commission and
one meeting with the City Council.The process typically takes about 2 months from the application date.
I assume the current owners of 400 and 410, Granrud and O'Connor, would jointly be making the
application.
The Planning Commission meets once a month. The submittal deadline for the next application period is
August 18 for applications that would be scheduled for a September 20 public hearing at the Planning
Commission. This would then be forwarded for City Council action on October 11.
I'm enclosing a subdivision application packet,with the necessary submittal information highlighted.
Because not all information in the packet applies to a simple lot line rearrangement,following is a surnmary
of the information you must provide:
1. Application Forn7 and Disclosure filled out and signed by all involved property owners.
2. Certificate of Survey including both properties,showing the locations of all improvements
(buildings,stairways,wells,septic systems,etc).,showing the parcel to be transferred,and
indicating existing and proposed legal descriptions for each property. The survey must
include signature lines for the Mayor and City Clerk, as well as for all property owners.

3. Certified Property Owners List obtained from Hennepin County,including all properties
within 350' of the subject properties. Also submit the plat map that comes with that list.
