MINNETONKAMINNESOTA ' , , Wetland Identification, Delieation ' and Classification for Thomas Bren Homes, Inc. ' Preview ' Based upon the boundaries indicated on the site map,we have identified one wetland basin. It was field identified on May 14, 1999. The basin is part of a larger system which flows to Lake ' Minnetonka. Review of U.S. Fish and Wildlife National Wetland Inventory maps indicates one PEMF wetland at this location. Based on review of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Protected Waters map, protected water number 859W is located on this property. No Ordinary High Water ' (OHW) has been determined far this wetland basin. Recorded rainfall at the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, NIN far the 7 days preceding the delineation was 1.15 inches. ' Project Location and Site Description s The site is located in the Southwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter of Section 3, Township 117, ' Range 23 in Hennepin County, MN. The delineation was only conducted along the north side of the property. The delineation line does not comprise the extent of wetland occurring on the entire property. ' Characteristics of Wetland B ' asins ' Basin 1 Wetland basin 1 is located along the north side of the property. At the time of the delineation, water levels were high due to heavy rains far three days preceding the ' delineation. ' Wetland basin 1 is classified as a Type 3 wetland (Inland shallow fresh marsh) as defined in Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (FWS Publication 79/31; Cowardin et al) and Wetlands of the United States (USFWS ' Circular 39; Shaw and Fredine 1971). Based on the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual, basin 1 is classified as a PEMF (Palustrine Emergent Semipermanently Flooded) wetland. ' ' SCFiOELLMADSONINC. MINNETONKAMINNESOTA ' ' Ttegetcrtion One Army Corps of Engineers transect was performed for Basin 1. Vegetation observed within the wetland sample plot consisted of wool-grass Scirpus cyperinus, , an obligate wetland plant; lake sedge Carex lacustris, an obligate wetland plant; jewelweed Impatiens capensis, a facultative wetland plant; green ash Fraxinus pennsylvanica, a facultative wetland plant; and red-osier dogwood Cornus ' stolonifera, a facultative wetland plant. ' Upland vegetation consisted of American basswood Tilia americana, a facultative upland plant;common buckthorn Rhamnus cathartica,a facultative upland plant;and water leaf HydYophyllum virginianna, a facultative wetland (-) plant. ' The boundary vegetation consisted of American basswood; common buckthorn; lake sedge; and black cherry Prunus serotina, a facultative upland plant. ' Soils , Soils were classified by the Hennepin County Soil Survey as Marsh (Ma) for this basin. Both soil classifications are listed as hydric by Hennepin County. ' f Upland soils have an A horizon from 0 to 12+inches. They are a black(2.5 Y 2.5/1) ' sandy loam. Boundary soils are black(2.5 Y 2.5/1) loam from 0 to 14+inches. Wetland soils are ' a structureless muck. Hydrology Within the corps wetland sample plots, water was standing at a depth of ' approximately 2 inches, Saturation was observed in the boundary soil pit at a depth of 10 inches. Free water ' was observed at a depth of 12 inches. ' No saturation or free water was observed in the upland sample plot. , SCHOELL SMADSONINC. MINNETONKAMINNESOTA ' ' ' The site lies within the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District boundaries in the City of Orono, ' Minnesota. Wetlands were delineated according to the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual (technical report Y-87-1) with the 1991/1992 revisions. Wetlands on this site come under the jurisdiction of the Board of Water and Soil Resources. The ' responsibility for administering the provisions of the Wetland Conservation Act is up to the local unit of government(LGU). In this case, Minnehaha Creek Watershed District will oversee as LGU. ' The project must be certified by the LGU as having complied with the provisions of the Act. During the final design process efforts should be taken, whenever possible, to avoid and minimize ' vetland impacts. By utilizing this approach, wetland replacement costs will be kept to a minimum and any additional permitting will be more easily facilitated. In addition, this strategy should result ' in a reater level of project acceptance. ' ' ' ' , ' ' ' ' ' ' SCHOELLMADSONINC.
