Applications for septic system permits may be mailed or submitted in person at the City Offices; however, permits will not be mailed out. The permit must be picked up i.n person at the City Offices and work must not begin unless the permit card is on the job site. 2. Permits will be issued only to contractors holdin� a City of Orono Septic System Installers License. 3. All work must be done in accordance with the approved septic system design. Design reports are not considered approved unless accompanied by the "City of Orono Septic System Approval" cover sheet si�ned by the City Inspector. 4. The followin� inspections will be required for all septic systems: A. Pre-installation site inspection to include inspector, installer, and general contractor. B. Tank installation prior to coverin�. C. Drainfield trench installation prior to covering. For mounds, inspection is required after rouQh-up but prior to sand placement (sand will be jar tested for silt content), and a�ain during pressure distribution pipinJ installation in the rock bed. D. Final inspection to verify proper final cover depths and to verify that all pump station (where required) components are functional and comply with codes. 5. Individual holdin� MPCA Installer Certificate shall be present durinJ inspections: A 24- hour notice is required for all inspections. NOTE: Applicant must initial all spaces. GITY Ur ORONO Job.� Site; Above Address Percolation tests and soil bo.rings were done on the above site on 4/27/97 and it was determine that a mound system would have to be installed due to the mottled soil levels . * Mottled soil was at 18 , 20 , and 28 inches . ( S .B .# 3 , 5 & 6) The average percolation rate was 22 . 1 min/in. in the area that was tested . � Therefore a mound system was design to accom�date a 4 bedroom home based on the above mottled soil levels and the ave . percolation rate . * See the report dated 5/16/97 for the details . However after the site was tested and staked off some uneccesary consruction traffic occured over the proposed mound system and some bobcat tracks were left after this traffic • occured . Due to the fact that this �-�acz.t tracks existed there was some concern by the City of Orono Inspector (Mr . Steve Wickman) , that some compaction was done and the percolation , rates could . be� al�er . Therefore two percolation tests were done in the tire tracks on ' , ' . �_ 8/15/97 '• with the following results; Percolation Hole # lA--- Perc . Rate--24 .4 min/in. " " # 2A ---- " " -- 20 . 8 min/in. Therefore when comparing these rates to the orginal perc. rate � of 22 . 1 min/in. ( the ave . perc . rate obtained on 4/27/97 ) ,� the perc . rates obtained on 8/15/97 did not change . Therefore even tho construction traffic did exist the percolation rate � in the proposed area was the same and the same sizing factors can � be use to size out the mound system. The mound design that was done in the 5/16/97 report should be used when installing the mound system. Also, the steep slopes are on the upslope side of the system and will not effect function of the system. THIS IS NOT A PERMIT. This is a design approval form which must accompany the site plan. A permit must be issued to a licensed septic contractor prior to installation. A list of currently licensed septic contractors is enclosed. NOTICE TO INSTALLERS: Any changes to the approved plans and specs must have prior approval of the Inspector (473-7357). Call for inspections 24 hours in advance. ALL DRAINFIELD AREAS MUST BE FENCED OFF prior to building site excavation and fencing must remain in place until final site grading. Approval to pour footings will not be granted until tlie Iiispections Department has verified that primary and alternate sites are adequately protected. NO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC OF ANY KIND (cars, trucks, earth moving equipment, e[c.) is allowed within 20' of tested drainfield sites either before or after system construction. Compaction of these areas could render them unusable prohibiting the timely completion and or limiting the long term use of the property.
