MINNESOTA 55441 PHONE 612-559*1900 October 17, 1977 McNulty Construction Company 609 2nd Avenue South Suite 800 Minneapolis, Minnesota 55^02 Attention: Mr. Richard Stover STS Job No. 91201 Re: Soil Percolation Test, Tract E, as Shown on Registered Land Survey No. 1358, Maxwell Bay, Orono, Minnesota. Gentlemen: We were requested by you to perform soil percolation tests at the above refer enced property (see attached sketch). The tests were performed on October 14, 1977» The procedure was performed in accordance with the methods designated by the Minne sota Department of Health, 1971. The attached log sheet indicates the observed percolation rates at each of the test holes (P-1 through P-6). The observed perc olation rates at five of the test holes (P-1 through P-3, P“5, P“6), were within the maximum allowable rate of 60 minutes per Inch, as recommended by the Minnesota Department of Health. Basea on these observations, the installation of an individual soil absorption system will be acceptable in this portion of the area tested. In addition to the above percolation test holes, one (l) test boring was drilled to a depth of 8.0 feet. It is our opinion that the level of the ground water table at the time of testing v/as below that depth. Fluctuations in the water level may occur over a wi'^ range, depending upon the amounts of precipitation, evaporation, surface runoff, and infiltration, which will vary with seasonal changes. I V - I i. L i - ■ : ^ • Mr. Richard Stover October 17. 1977 Page two Based on the test results, installation of an individual soil absorption disposal system would be acceptable in the area of test P-1 through P-3, P-5, and P-6, for a recommended design rate of 46 to 60 minutes per inch, requiring a minimum of 330 square feet of absorption area per bedroom. The observed water table in the area is at a depth of greater than 6.5 feet below the existing ground surface, making an absorption system acceptable according to state codes and regulations. The provisions of the "Ordinance and Code Regulating Individual Sewage Olsposal Systems" (1971). as recommended by the Minnesota Department of Health, as well as any local ordinances and codes, should be followed in the design and installation of a disposal system. VILLAGE OF 0RQN4 Subject:Septic System Application Review McNulty Construction at 3250 Fox Street Dear Tom: At your request of December 5, 1977, we have reviewed the subject application. Based on the percolation test results, we concur with the recommended design factor of at least 330 S.P. of adsorption area per bedroom. Water table problems are not expected to pose a problem, so a standard system is acceptable. We request that the applicant submit a design layout for the septic system (location of proposed house, septic tanks, and drainfield) for both a primary site and alternate site. The elevations of lot corners, the septic system area (both primary and alternate site), and the house foundation should be included in the submittal. Until this information is received, we will be unable to complete our review of the application. If you should have any questions, please advise. Very t^uly ^urs, McCOllbS-KNli^ON/;^SSOCIATES , INC. The proposal is to install a standard on-site septic system with complete gravity flow. The system will consist of two tanks (1000 gallons and 750 gallons) followed by 4 drainfield lines, each 125 feet long X 7 ft. center-to-center x 3 ft. wide trenches. The net drainfield area is therefore 1500 S.F., which is more than adequate for four bedrooms based on the reported percolation rates (ranged from 22 to 48 mpi). The septic system was designed on the basis of 330 S.F. per bedroom, which is the minimum recommended for a percolation rate of 60 mpi. We recommend approval of the application.
